Problems with Netgear wireless router

I'll try and keep this short. Today I was helping a friend connect his new laptop to his already working Netgear wireless router (WGT624v3 or WGT624v4) not real sure on the model#'s. His wireless router is secured and he did not know the password. The laptop was reconizing the router as secured, so I reset the router by pushing in the button for around 5 seconds to set it back to factory, so we could connect. At the same time I was doing this we were having a bad thunderstorm, lightning was popping all around. When I went back to the PC and tried to connect, the PC was no longer reconizing the router. I don't know if after I reset the router that I needed to do some setup on the router or maybe lightning got it? The router still works when a cable is connected to the PC, but not wireless. The wireless radio status light does not come on. The power light is on and the green check light goes off after a few seconds like its suppose to. The "1" light is lit where we have the cable going to the PC. The wireless radio status light should be lit. I dont think I messed the router up when I reset it and I don't think that lightning got it. But either one could have killed it?? I'm hoping that I just need to do something after the reset. I did find this.
Press and hold the reset button. While the button is held down, reconnect router's power.
Continue to hold the reset button for 20 seconds after reconnecting the power.
Wait for the router to reboot.
Could this fix the problem? Thanks!

I would start first with a wire connection to the Router.

After reset the Wireless setting are back to default It might be that the Laptop is not configured as needed to establish a Wireless connections with the default setting.

As a rule I would Not work on a Wireless Router if i do not have an optional wired connection.

Almost all current Laptops have an Wire NIC too, get a Cat5e cbale and plug it directly to the Router.

I have a wired connection now and it is working. The signal light on the router is not lit, which is telling me that the wireless part of the router is not working??? The laptop is picking up a signal from another wireless router (unsecured) The laptop was reconizing the Netgear wireless router as a secured connection. We did not have the password to the router and thats why I reset the router so I could connect to it. I would think that if lightning hit the router that it would not work wireless or wired?? Do think that I just need to setup the router after the reset? thanks for the help

Log to the Router menus, and check all the settings.

I am not sure about the WGT624 but many Router has a menu entry to switch On and Off the Radio.

Make sure that the radio is On, that there is an SSID name, and that it set to Broadcast.

Start with the security Off and when you get it working take care of the security.
