Problems with NEW 3dfx drivers for the VooDoo 3 video card (just released)

I just downloaded the new VooDoo 3 2000 video drivers, I am using WinMe (ver 1.06.00)

I installed like they say, and half way through the installation I got a pop-up error massage "failed to install drivers" (or something like that). It then proceeds with the
install and reboots, once it's back up I check to see if the drivers are there.... they are not. However, all the 3dfx tools were installed.

I then installed the STANDARD VGA 640X480 16 color drivers, uninstalled the 3dfx stuff, re-booted and tried again.... same problem.

Next thing I did was to manually update the 3dfx drivers, I pointed to where the new folder that contains the 3dfx driver.... it finally worked.

I am wondering if there is an issue with the install set-up with the new drivers or....?

Anyone else have this problem?

I think I had the same problem. I remember installing the drivers and getting the error message. Only when I decided to manually install the drivers did it work. I have the same card the only difference is I'm running 98 SE. You would think they would find the bug before the release !

You think they would huhhh.....

I suppose that is why they announced at Comdex that they will no longer be a retailer. They are going back to being a chip manufacturer :Q

The best that they can hope for now is a "buy-out."

DocDoo, did you uninstall the 3dfx Tools from the Windows Install/Uninstall?

If not, there is your problem.

Yes I did uninstall tools. Only way I was able to get windows to load the driver was to do a regular install, then under the device manager update driver then pointed it to the folder that the driver was in. Only then was the driver version showing to be correct. It's been working fine, but for some reason these new 3dfx drivers have a screwed up install (at least for mine and a few others).

I will add. I have been using and updating the prior 3dfx drivers since this VooDoo3 2000 video card was hot off the press (about 16 months now).... without problems

You primarily see that happen if you're running a pre-relase beta of Windows ME. And we did not announce that we were going back to being a chip manufacturer, we simply stated that we would not be manufacturing the actual boards ourselves.

All I can add is this happened on the retail version of WinMe. But the new drivers went in just fine on my Win2K box!

Is this the same Alf from the old 3dfx days

PS. Please elaborate, you will not be making the green boards? You will only supply the chips? 3dfx is still going to sell retail boards? 3dfx will make _____ !
