Problems with new XFX GF 6600 GT Card

Just received my XFX GF 6600 GT 128 MB Model PVT43AND Video Card from Newegg and installed it ( after removing all old video drivers).

Problem is this- during BIOS boot up currupt characters appear on the screen. Once in WIN 2K the screen has strange tiny groups of dashes.

Loaded new drivers- this did not help.

Installed the card in our second machine and same symptoms.

BTW- Power supply is Antec True Power 550 and I did hook up the separate power connector to the card.

MB is Abit IC7-G with 1 gig ram and Pentium 2.4 C ( at 3.0); Other machine tried has Abit NFS7 MB.

The card has dual DVI output - I used the supplied adaptor to connect to non DVI monitor( tried both sides too).

Any suggestions prior to RMA'g the card back to Newegg??

RMA it.. my XFX 6600GT AGP works fine.. I believe I've heard of others having this same problem. Check out the forums on xfxforce.com as well, but fair warning, there's lots of bitching there... of course, when to HAPPY customers post lots of messages?

Only problem w/ my XFX is that it runs hot (in my opinion).. idle is 58C, and I get around 70C in HL2, one time hit 80C when really pushing it. Looking for an aftermarket cooler... but that's another topic.

Can you get it to boot into windows at all ? If so you might want to check temps. That happened to me once on this card, while I was dickering around with the HSF. Reseating it seemed to fix the problem. Being your card is brand new, you may not want to *and shouldnt have to* go that route.

It does boot into WIN2K - but there are weird groups of hash marks(dashes/artifacts). The artifacts/corrupt characters appear on the BIOS boot up prior to getting into the OS.

Any other ideas ?

Hope I did not screw up on getting this card- newegg only offers replacement of same card for this item.

No- as a long time loyal newegg customer I trusted the favorable buyer reviews. Guesss this may be my first real dissapointment in 13 orders with them.

Well, I am stuck. hopefully the replacement will work.

i ment, around here, newegg posts are generally n00b-biased. hopefully it will work, because the 6600gt is a really nice card.

Yeah, you got screwed....

There are thousands of happy XFX 6600 AGP card owners out here......but you got screwed.

WTF?



Sometimes even a new $50,000 car has problems, don't they?

It's a great card, ask anybody who has one that worked out of the box.

Newegg will replace thru RMA with another and I should be good to go.

I agree, anything electrical can arrive DOA.
