We are having some problems with the overclocked 3800+ X2, socket 939. Twice now in 3 days, it completely shut down. Just about at idle both times. Just turned itself off. Cool and quiet is not enabled. Temps are fine. Could some voltages need to be raised? I?m thinking ram voltages, chipset voltage, maybe power supply. How about the surge protector?

Thanks

Here's the specs from an earlier post:

The goal was to get to 2.6GHz on as low as possible voltage, and have decent temps. I think we suceeded pretty well. We have it at 2.6GHz, dual Orthos stable for 24 hours nonstop. Under 100% Orthos load, temps were at 55 degrees Celsius in a 78 degree F room. Ram is at 2.5-3-3-6, all other settings at default.
I guess I just have some simple questions. It's OK to have the HT at 1043 if it's stable, right? Should we bother to adjust any other ram settings?

I would lower the HT to the next lowest setting - you won't lose any performance, so its worth a try. I have trouble with my board when it gets much above 1000. Overall, a great overclock for a budget motherboard.

Yeah, I hear you on the HT. What is the consensus on how low you can go without impact? The 3 multiplier would give me a HTT of 783

Ugh. Is that the free after rebate psu from Fry's? If the computer just turns itself off without a quick bsod and doesn't reboot, something's probably wrong with the power. I'd get a flashlight and look around for burst caps or something inside the power supply. Can your home's electrical wiring handle a pc without spikes or other problems?

The first thing to do is run it for a few days at stock and see if the problem still occurs.

On a lark, here's a question: Were you using CoreTemp at the time the shutdowns occurred?

If so, you may be interested in this..

Hope that helps.

dude dont worry about this.

i felt absolutely no difference going from HTT 1000 to 840. I read somewhere it you wont feel squat even at 700HTT.

Also theres no point in running ram 1:1. Unless you superPI all day, you wont notice the speed, and it will only help stability.

But your kinda pushing it. Your pushing 2.6GHZ on stock voltage. I think thats why your system is rebooting.

You might want to increase your Vcore a little bit. To like 1.325V

And if anyone wants to challange me on my statement above:

HTT 840

HTT 1000 EVerything was 1:1 ratio - BAH waste....

I felt ABSOLUTELY NO difference in anything i do. Gaming, surfing, porn watching... errr i mean research....

Only place where i saw a definite improvement was trying to push out high superpi times. But no one does superPI over and over and over all day.

Actually i only kept 3.08ghz because Optys running 3.0ghz + was leet.

I didnt feel much of a difference either from 2.75 -> 3.08

However once we get to 3.1+ ranges: Thats a different story.

1. It might be the Ultra PS, though I use the same model myself on a overclocked Opty 165.

2. I?ll lower the HT.

3. And yes, we were using Coretemp. That?s interesting. Thanks everyone for your time.

4. and I'll bump the vcore a tad too?..
