Hmmmm. Bear with me here. I just purchased a new PIII 700 (slot 1) and I'm having a heat problem with it in my motherboard (Abit BE6-II). Currently, I have a Celeron 400a in and the CPU temperature reads around 40 degrees Celcius. However, when I put the 700 (with no overclocking)in, the temp jumps up between 65 and 75 degrees Celcius. The board has fail-safes to shut down at certain temperatures and 80 degrees Celcius is the max. I have a heatsink and fan combo on (Cyber Cooler 3 fan-heatsink combo), but it doesn't seem to help at all. Should I be sending this processor back and asking for a new one? I'm wondering if I got a lemon.....

yeah, that does sound a bit high. usually the highest a stock chip with stock heatsink and fan should go would be in the high forties or low fifties.

Well I also have a slot 1 700 on a BE6-II And with Just 2 case fans and half a$$ed heatsink fan it ran right around 50 degrees Celcius
Now I have a Istorm HD cooler and a Slot 1 Orb and it hardly ever gits much above 40-43 degress Celcius

Almost forgot I have mine running at 800mhz

The processor is not the problem. Make sure you use thermal paste between the heatsink and the cpu. Also, try to get your case some better cooling in general, with cheap addidtions like slot fans or hard drive coolers.

I have the 650cu SECC2 (about a week old) and the Be6-II and the alarm constantly goes off every other day or so (70 degrees C) and I don't overclock, have a mid-tower case with lots of breathin room, cables are out of the way, there is a heatsink and fan on the processor, and there is a fan for the psu. Is this supposed to run this hot? What's the deal? Anyone have intel specs on the heat comin off the coppermines? I have never used thermal grease, nor do I intend to now. The case temp is at 98 degrees F consistently, and the processor bounces at idle between 60-63C.

PS EDIT -- It's goin off right now, and allI am doing is surfing..... I KNOW this isnt right..think it's possible to have a remark PIII?

Hi guys, I think that your problem( actually I am damn sure), is that you are either using the abit utility to monitor your temps/ or.. You are not using the "rv" bios/ or .. you do not have the "warning temp" in bios set high enuff. Solution= Delete( add/remove), the abit utility,(or take it out of startup), and DL Mobo monitor, and then raise your warning temp in bios After flashing to rv..... Settings for the sensors in mobo monitor =cpu:winbond2 p2diode/mobo:winbond3/probe(onboard),winbond1 This will Help, as I have been in the same boat .

I didnt install any abit software when I loaded the PC last week for the first time, but I will flash the bios and we'll see how that works out.

cB0 stepping, been idling all day, and when I look at the abit hardware doctor, immediately the alarm goes off and states the processor is running outside of voltage parameters. It "Exceeds the limits." However, when I look at where the voltage meter is, it's LOWER than it should be!? That means the damn processor is actually running COOLER than it should be?

Any ideas folks? I have a standard heatsink and one fan strapped to this coppermine badboy!

EDIT::::Voltage meter was set incorrectly. Vcore should be 1.65, which it is. Meter was set to 1.85 low, 2.20 high. I lowered it, all is well. Still runnin 65C while idle tho. Somethin funked up.

Well, I slapped a Golden Orb on there, and lo, it is cooler.

45-50C at all times, Idle and under massive gaming strain. Damn chip runs too hot.

Golden orb was from cpusforless.com, it was 13.99+shipping (extra $4, so total was $17 for all you mathwizards out there ) and it came with a free 80mm case fan (search the Hot Deals forum for the coupon code).
