Hi All:
This is my first ever post on this forum and I'd just like to say hi first off. I heard about you guys from amdmb.com after posting on their forum with this question.....
Here's my system
AMD TBIRD 1.4Ghz
KT7A-RAID Motherboard
2 x 40 GB Maxtor D740X-6L - running on raid 0
Nvidia GeForce 32MB DDR 256
512 MB CAS-2 Micron
52x Creative CDROM
Soundblaster Live
Generic NIC
Ok now thats provided, I've been wondering this for a long time, but it seems to me that my hardrive is quite sluggish at times. I've benchmarked it numerous times on Sandra and considering tht I have it running on RAID 0 and considering that they both have 2MB of cache I simply cannot understand how I recieve a score of 23878. According to Sandra the speed of my hardrives is marginally better than a 7200RPM hardrive, and is not even in the same ballpark at all to a similar 2 x 7200 RPM hardrives running RAID 0. I've got the highpoint raid controller built into my motherboard. Here are the specs sandra gives me:
Disk Status
SMP test : no
Total Test Threads: 1
SMT Test: no
DYNAMIC Mp/Mt load balance: no
Processor Affinity: no
windows disk cache used: no
test file size: 511 mb
File server optimized: no
BenchMark Breakdown
Buffered Read 58 MB/sec
Sequential Read 35 MB/sec
Random Read: 5mb/sec
Buffered Write: 34 MB/sec
Sequential Write: 33 MB/sec
Random Write: 9 MB/sec
Acerage access time: 10 ms (estimated)
Drive
Drive Class: Fixed
So all that said and done... I checked my highpoint raid controller... and yes the settings for raid 0 are UDMA 5 (100mb/s) and block sizes are 64k. I've tried updating the drivers... and the bios... but nothing changes. If anyone has even the faintest clue why these things are like this could you pleeeeeeeeeeeeease let me know.... you guys are my last hope. Maxtor doesn't know why... and ABIT is useless for tech support.... so if anyone could help that would be AWESOME....
forever in your debt..
