k, last night my computer started to hang when loading windows xp sp1, I try to get into safemode and it hangs when loading mup.sys, I reimage to a fresh install w/out XP but after all drivers were loaded same thing happens again within 2 hours...I delete partition reformat and install XP and get SP1 and install all drivers, restart a few times and everything is running perfect, play warcraft 3 for a few hours then restart and good ol' windows hangs at the same point yet again.....oh yeah, between these I ran Norton Antivirus 2003 with latest definitions and found 0 viruses...what is wrong? What can I do to fix this crap.....my full system is: 1700+ @ 2053(also underclocked to 11x100fsb to test if that was a problem), 8rda+, 512mb hyperX pc3000, ti4200 128mb, 80gb WD SE, 30gb maxtor, 300w TTGI PSU, 24x burner, and a 56k modem....I have no idea what is wrong and have tried everything that I thought should work, so help me figure this out guys!!! Thanks a lot...ohh yeah, hopefully I get this fixed by sunday night cause I have a 30 hour LAN to attend...thanks again!

Ya, sp1 blows. Forget possible problems, the license agreement give Microsloth the right to disable parts or all of your OS and applications if they decide that you are using the computer in a way that is not permitted. What's not permitted? Whatever the heck every they say is.

I actually found out what was wrong...it was a driver issue with my onboard USB 2.0 conflicting with my onboard NIC...I wonder why it took 3 months to actually start a problem, but it did...I just had to disable the USB 2.0 and update their drivers(never bothered installing them since I have no usb devices)...now everything works correctly. It seem that the MUP.sys allows connections to multiple servers liek MS Client and Novell Client at the same time and the driver conflicting with my NIC was making it think it was supposed to establish a connection with a server causing some sort of infinite loop of not letting me get on my damn computer, hehe....kinda pisses me off that I had to reformat and re-image so many times, but at least I got it fixed...and I was smart enough to backup all of my games registry settings so I didn't have to reinstall all of them(have them on a different partition and some on a different HDD)....well thanks for your help and hopefully noone else sees this problem...

Don't get me wrong, I load many updates from windowsupdate.microsoft.com, I just refuse to load XP SP1, IE6 SP1, Mediaplayer 9, and one or two others that have this bs license agreement.

BTW: mup.sys is just where a LOT of unstable systems hang, often if you back off the FSB or up the voltage a bit, you'll have no problems.

you need to patch your system afterwards if im not mistaken, and im assuming the patch would be on the windows update thing
