Here's the deal. I've NEVER had problems with this until just now. What happened is this. My radiator has had a small leak for a few weeks. Today, it started leaking pretty badly. I caught it before it overheated and filled it up. Got it home just before it hit around 250 degrees.

I had a used radiator which I installed. I filled it up and started the truck. Everything is fine. I let it warm up to 210 where it normally sits. Fine. I take it for a drive and now the tranny slips.

Is this just one hell of a coincidence or could I possibly have fscked something up??

..does the radiator have trans.fluid lines connected at the bottom?? and may have an exterior cooler as well with rubber lines. Check for kinks and proper fluid level. May have lost 1/2 quart on the radiator r/r if cooler lines run through it. It's prob.an electronic auto trans. Get the codes looked at in the fault logger.

engine/tranny that is in the truck? if i remember correctly that could be anything from a small block v-8 w/ a 4 speed auto to a diesel w/ a 5 spd manual?

I don't think a 92 GM is that sophisticated with the transmission. I'm picturing a small wiring harness for shift and TCC solenoids.

You lost a bunch of ATF while the radiator was leaking. Check your Auto tranmission fluid and it will be low. Guarantee it.

yea, i was thinking probably not...esp for a 2500, as it would be alot more likely to be something easy to change out, not likely to have the tranny linked w/ the radiator in something that can have like 40 different engine / tranny combos

Alright folks, I appreciate the input. I filled it up as it was low. Drove fine for a min. Now it's low again. I checked the connections and don't see anything wrong but I'll have to do it again in the morning. Any chance that my tranny is ruined since it was driven about 3/4 a mile with very little fluid?

Can you see any leaks? Are you checking with the truck in park, running, on a flat surface? (wait.. was it in gear.. I don't recall now)

Most cars/trucks have their auto transmission cooler built into the radiator, so he may have lost fluid during the swap/before the swap.

I didn't see one but I had a shitload of tranny fluid on the street from it.

The fluid you measured on the dipstick doesn't measure empty space in the lines and transmission cooler. It's slipping because it's still low. Start the truck and let it idle and re check after a few minutes.

Did the transmission have lines that ran into the radiator? If so, I cross-threaded on of those once... had to re-tap it and clean it out (caused one helluva leak).

When you fixed the radiator you probably boosted the pressure in the cooling system thus boosting the pressure in the transmission cooler lines possibly resulting in a new leak there.

Can you localize from where the truck was and the puddle is, the location (front or middle) of the truck?

I'll probably be able to do so in the morning. Part of my problem is that it got dark out and I got pissed off. In the morning, I'll actually be able to see and most likely find the source of the leek.

Just don't leave tools under the hood :x I replaced a radiator and left a screwdriver under the hood... well lets just say it took an entire tube of JB weld to fix that leak.

LOL...will do. Thanks for making me chuckle tonight, even if at your expense.
