Well, the report defines "processed" as anything cured, as well--so any meat that has been altered by human intervention. So that "artisinal" prociutto and pancetta are just as bad...

well, it's nothing new to the CSoA. This is really old stuff. Still, who gives a shit? Only one life to live. Live it deliciously.

Well when I do eat hot dogs I boil them.

This is just a way to get govs to tax more, since it is "bad" for you.
NYC will be first, followed by California.

Nitrosamines, not rocket science.

Yep. A huge reason why Swedish Snus (snuff) is better than any American variety of oral tobacco. Oral-tobacco-related cancers (mouth, throat, etc) in Sweden are ridiculously low; save for pancreatic cancer, which doubled from roughly 1:8000 to 1:4000.

Low nitrosamine content in the final product is the largest influence in the difference between the two production methods for oral tobacco. Pancreatic cancer is an elevated risk for all tobacco use. In Sweden, the cancer rate is no higher for oral cancers than other European countries where oral tobacco use is lower.

......................

Most cured and/or processed meats don't typically have a great deal of nitrosamines, however, they do contain nitrates and nitrites that can, but will not necessarily, be converted into nitrosamines within the gut. That's one source of potential trouble. Charred meat can also contain other carcinogens, which is another source.

Nitrosamines, however, are not 100% dangerous. If so, vegetarians would be dying left and right of bowel cancers. Many people get more nitrosamines from total vegetable consumption than any meat consumption.

I think it all circles back to one thing: a well-rounded diet. Various vegetables have beneficial micronutrients, of which some can be said to be anti-tumor and others help give the body a boost at fighting anything unwelcome or otherwise boost the immune and cardio functions.

You can and will get nitrosamines in your diet whether you like it or not, but getting the right foods into your body will help minimize their danger. As a reminder, they are not only dangerous to our tissues, but also function as an antibacterial agent (perhaps in a limited capacity).

.....................

Summary: almost everything we eat and drink can kill us. But if we get enough of most things, the beneficial properties can out-compete those that wish to see us dead.

The WHO lists are a complete joke. Without any sort of dosage guidelines, a list of cancer causing things is useless. After all, the number one rule in toxicology is "the dose makes the poison."

All cancer patients are reported to have breathed in and out. There is therefore a strong correlation between breathing in and out and getting cancer. If you don't want cancer, stop breathing in and out.

Given that this is a male dominated forum, we men are far more likely to get prostate cancer - ~14% in our lifetime. So enjoy being a carnivore, my friends; just live by the adage, all things in moderation.

The bolded is not true. I think you meant to say "all victims of cancer do breathe in and out" therefore...

Your suggestion will in fact prevent cancer if you don't already have it. Pretty legit.

When I lived in South Korea I never ate so much pork as I did when I was there. That and Koreans drink bottles of Soju, and smoking is still allowed in public places.

It brought home the fact that we are just scared of our own shadows. You can't talk to strangers. Someone might rob you. Eating meat? You can't do that. Drinking alchoal? Nope. Being honest and telling someone they're overweight? Nope. Fat shaming. Being first because you're better than everyone? Nope. Give that 1st place trophy to little Johnny although he has never practiced in his life, and he just sucks. It's the right thing to do.

Yep. Let's scare the American public so they can live in their little bubble. Never experiencing life because life is big, bad, and scary.

Nightmare rate predicts political affiliation (50%R vs. 18%D). If you are fearful, I am sorry. I maximize the good. I expend my life on good red meat and pork that is amazing.

This is colon cancer only isn't it? Why isn't anyone focusing on that as an argument? Isn't this cancer a small % of the population anyway?

Also, blacks are more susceptible to it - does that mean they eat more meat? Hmm...
Colorectal cancer incidence and mortality rates are highest in African American men and women; incidence rates are about 25% higher and mortality rates are about 50% higher than those in whites. Incidence and mortality rates among other major racial/ethnic groups are lower than those among whites.

I've seen that before on a hog. I used to work at a bakery, and we'd get the occasional hog to cook due to the big ovens. One of them had a snot pocket in its leg. I'm not fond of the smell of cooked whole pig.

That is a "short loin", it's where T-bone and porterhouse are cut from. If it's removed from the bone it's the tenderloin and strip-loin (or NY strip, KC strip, ect). This animal had cancer, that is the pus and discharge. I've seen it in top sirloin butts before but never in a short loin, we also have no idea if that photo has been touched-up or not. The large Co's that pack 99% of all the meat use a person to do one part of the operation. One guy will be on a vertical-moving platform and cut the carcass in half and from there all the primal cuts are broken down with a person trained to do one job in assembly-line fashion.

Yeagh, abscess.
Maybe eating processed food is better, those nitrosamines are at least sterilizing the food a bit... D:

Ignorance can be such bliss sometimes...

A lot of insecure people here. No one is attacking your manhood or taking away your right to eat what you're currently eating. Not even insurance premiums have adjusted to it yet like they adjusted to smoker status. It just links eating certain foods to slightly higher increased risks of cancer. You're free to do with that information what you want.

Why are people being so defensive?

According to the study:

"To put this in perspective, the lifetime risk of colon cancer is 5 percent," Agus said. "If you have a hot dog every day, your risk goes to 6 percent."

So, there is a 1/100 chance that eating processed meat EVERY DAY will cause colon cancer in a person who otherwise wouldn't likely get colon cancer. And colon cancer is the one with "predominantly" heightened risk.

How about a pound of bacon and pastrami topped with fake liquid cheddar topped wth honey mustard sauerkraut and dill pickles?

Is it true that sauerkraut cures cancer? I didnt see it on snopes, so Im not sure!

No worries there, heart attack will take care of the problem before cancer has a chance!
