Naw not at all. That's a decent wage for someone single without my expenses like myself. It's just pretty much the going wage for most entry level engineering positions is much higher (~50-60k) so while I'd be comfortable, I'd sort of be missing out on a lot more $ if I took an offer at 40k.I just gotta ask.....is 40k really bad?
Spaldings?
I guess I just don't realize what the market is for professionals. It's just pretty much the going wage for most entry level engineering positions is much higher (~50-60k)
Yeah that's definitely possible. Maybe above average grads can expect $50-60k, but out of everyone most can probably expect at least 40.I guess I just don't realize what the market is for professionals.
Being a blue collar steel worker all my life I just didn't pay attention to that stuff.
I have seen my old workplace (Timken Co.) hire fresh engineering graduates as shift foreman but I'll bet they made @ 40 grand.
I'm sure it was frustrating for them to see the union millrights (me) make more than double that with overtime but they didn't have to crawl thru piles of grease and swim thru lakes of hydralic fluid.

My school has this survey for new grads on job offers received, and the salaries are quite high. That's a lot of money for a company to spend on a new grad who may not know squat and just cruised through school somehow.
Here's what I'm talking about:

Though you have to think the people that submitted their response were the ones that did well, had a good job lined up, etc so the salary is probably a bit inflated over average.
And there's nothing wrong with trades guys busting their asses for years doing far less pleasant jobs to be able to pull down good money!
salary is probably a bit inflated over average?!
jesus... last century my 1st job out of college was in the mid 40's.
but nowadays girls in college seem a bit more flexible on their sexual morales. hm.. 20/20 hindsite, i would prefer to be born 10yrs later and graduating today
I suspect that I'll have to fight them over this
Are you going to try and fight on your own or use of of those Lawyers that advertise on TV?
holy necro
That's what I thought when I saw the notice from the state, lol.
dang how long ago was that 2 weeks of unemployment?
this is why i save all my papers ever
Sorry to bring up old thread but just got an audit notice to repay the 2 weeks of unemployment that I received (the only 2 weeks that I have received in over 25 years of work) because of the severance pay. I simply printed out the page from their own website as well as the e-mail sent from them when I filed stating that my severance does not count as gross wages toward unemployment.
I suspect that I'll have to fight them over this but I have sent in my audit paperwork and all supporting documents. Also note that the numbers reported by the company to the unemployment office were wrong. Nothing was listed as severance and one of the severance pay was listed as vacation pay. Looks like the company is trying to skit it's responsibility to pay the rates required to keep unemployment insurance in KY so they lower their liability in trying to deny or remove my 2.5 year old claim at this point.
The reason this thread is used as this was the job that was lost resulting in the claim.
