Zap, I agree. My comment about them not going over 3 ghz, is that they QUITE OFTEN DON'T, or most of the time don't, so YMMV is more appropriate. I have 3 6300's and 2 6400's and they all do 3.4, so the average there seems good, but the 4300 is a different story from what I have experienced, and read here.

the thing is that i want good performance with not as much heat and not as much power consumption etc. so I heard the 65 w AMD X2 is the way to go. I heard the C2D's run better but run hotter and less efficient.

Hotter!?! you have been told wrong. The TDP of the core 2 duo is 65 W that is the lowest that intel has ever had on a new processor release (in fact, it is lower then most AMD processors as well).

Less Efficient? May be in the days of the P4, but definitely not now. A standard Core 2 Duo will be faster then almost any AMD processor out, and Overclocked it is unbeatable. You need to seriously question the Technical authority of whoever told you those 2 things about the Core 2 Duo.

65nm brisbane core athlons are 65w processors too, I oced mine from 1.9Ghz to 2.8Ghz, it runs very cool, only 25c at the idle with air cooling. I used cheap arctic alpine64.

If you check anandtech they had something on watt/clock ratio just a little while back. I'll have to go digging to find it but i think i remember Brisbane and C2D not being far apart at all.

As for the opteron 1210 and opteron's in general. Opteron's are pretty much higher binned processors much like the ram binning process. Opteron's are more likely to reach higher clock speeds than their normal counterpart.

Like i said before if you're going for AMD then forget about any X2 and stick with the opteron.
