ok, I have an epox 8rda+ motherboard, xp 2400+ tbred B processor with an alhpa pal8045 heatsink and 21cfm panaflo fan (arctic silver 3). Also have a 380watt antec truepower and 2x512mb pc2700 corsair ddr. I have had the system running rock stable at 11.5 x 180 @ 2.725 volts for the past 3 weeks. Then, a few days ago, the system just crashed. I rebooted, and it crashed again. It would only stay on for about 15 minutes before it crashed. The temperature would start out at around 48 degrees C (which is what it should be), and then just start climbing until it hit over 70 and then crash (usually I would turn it off manually when it hit around 70).
I opened it up and checked the hsf... it didnt seem like it was screwed in all the way, so I screwed it back on really tight to make sure. I thought I had fixed it... it even ran prime95 at 11.5x190 for several hours. I then restarted, and it overheated again.
The weird thing is, it doesnt always happen now. It almost seems random whether it overheats or not. Soemtimes I will turn it on and it will be fine, others it will just start overheating right away, and others it will start out ok, but then start overheating after like 15 minutes or so.
I checked the HSF once again, and it was still screwed in ok. Oh, also, it does this at whatever clock speed I use (even if I underclock it)
Also, the hsf fan was still running when i checked it the one time.
What could be causing this??
