Doesn't seem all that impressive for it's a MSRP. I'll stick with a Thermalright V-1 Ultra.

I've seen that sink before. But, it's one of the sloppiest designs I've ever come across. Do you know what the street price on it?

Seen it before? Sloppiest designs? LOL! It's not even out yet! A freind of mine did a review for a site on one of these (in the Netherlands) and said it's the quietest and best cooler he's ever had on a video card...........

MSRP is suppose to be around $30 US.

Zalman products look good and are generally of high quality. So I like their product line.

The review does state on page 4 that the Leadtek 6800GT does have about the best stock
cooler on the market. Look how massive it is, that huge copper plate covering all chips.

So the VF900 only gives <10C drop at load compared to the Leadtek's sink.
What about cards with lesser stock cooling solutions.?

Just my passing thought.

The article was posted on Techreport.com last week.

When I said sloppy. I meant in terms of comparison to the Thermalright V-1Ultra which uses a heatpipe to the reverse side of the card. In comparison to the VF700 & VF900 which has a flushed design to the base of the card. In comparison to the Arctic silcener which exhaust the GPU heat to the outside of the chassis. In comparison to the Thermaltake Schooner where the design heatpipe and sink are situated outside the chassis thru the slot.

To me, it just didn't seem all that phenominal compared to contraptions I built before just using a 1U or 2U Xeon or socket A heatsink and a single gamma blower on it. JMO though.

OK, I'll entertain that. The new Acceleros do not exhaust the heat anymore. The heatpipe on the revers side may be a plus but so far hasn't impressed me. The Schooner you linked is nice, seen it before but as the reviews state, it's not for "high end" cards and not meant to be used in an O/C at all but if you're just going for quiet........it'd work........

The review my friend did put the VF1 up against the VF700 and Arctic Cooler and it beat both. The VF700 by around 4C under load and the Silencer by 5C under load.

Given thet the Leadtek 6800gt had a monster stock cooler to begin with, the new zalman cooler looks pretty good. I'm planning to buy the vf900 to replace the stock cooler on my x1900xtx. Anyone know who has em in stock?

Looks like a pretty good GPU cooler, and a pretty good review as well. Though it would have been nice to see it on a 1900XT or XTX as well as a comparison to the VF-700 it replaces.

I alreay have a vf700cu, but I heard it's not enough to cool a x1900xtx, so I need something even better. And those Accelero's are just butt-ugly IMO, and dont fit that many cards.

I would like a review that compares it to much worse stock heatsink. As well as comparing it too a VF700-cu.

I'm really curious if it's any better than the 700cu.

Got the VF1 Plus in from Stefan yesterday evening. Installed it on my BB ATI X1800XL last night. Install took about 20 minutes and it's quieter than the chipset fan.......(i.e. I can't even hear it) So far with limited actual testing........my old temps. with stock cooling were: 50C idle 68C load............now with the VF1 Plus........28C idle 42C after 4 consecutive runs of 3DMark06.......

EDIT: Of course some of this should be attributed to the addition of AS5 core/creamique memory.......the crap used on the stock cooler was worthless............

I've been considering just getting a p4, or socket a heatsink and mounting it to my 6600Gt, seems to cool better than any of the GPUHSF's out their.

To give you a good heads up this cooler will not fit on any of the Matrox, 6600/7300 [/b]AGP[/b] and 9500/9600, just to name a few.
NOOOOOOOO!!!!

Why do I always pick the wrong piece of hardware when I upgrade?

Oh well... VF700, here I come. :\

Just as a heads up, you'll be happy with the vf700 on your 6600GT. You'll need to grind or cut the ramsinks if you want to use them, but honestly they don't make much of a change as far as overclocking your ram. I decided not to use them on my wife's machine.

I'm not sure if I'll ever OC, but thanks for the advice anyway. Yes, I know the VF700 will be enough for a 6600GT, but possibly not for the next card I buy. The VF900 could have been better in terms of longevity: if it actually cools better than the VF700, that is. The review doesn't say anything about that though, so who knows. I'm hoping I'm not missing out on a lot.
