I have built two systems for my work using windows 7 ultimate and pro, both 64 bit o/s.. I work for GM and I have diagnostic hardware and software that is not yet approved for 64 bit operation yet I am able to get it running with a couple tweaks.. Mainly I just have to shut down the installation program when it does it's final checks to prevent it from disabling and uninstalling the driver and software when it fails the last communications test.. Have to work around UAC and add some exemptions to the firewall.. It works fine on both systems..
Now I have been asked to help someone here set up his personal laptop for use here.. His laptop is 64 bit Windows home.. Don't remember if it's the basic version or not, I will check.. Anyways I do the same install procedure and it just doesn't work.. One piece of software(MDI manager) will communicate with the device using the usb and the wireless communications protocol, so I believe the driver is working ok, but the actual diagnostic software programs are unable to connect.. It's not making lots of sense to me, but I'm beginning to think it's because of the operating system.. I have disabled firewall and UAC temporarily without any change..
Any ideas? It was my understanding the only real differences between the versions of home/professional and ultimate were the extras such as remote desktop and such.. The basic operation should be the same and this should work..
