Program to erase a HD

Hey, I jsut got a free 80 gig seagate HD from my neighbor. Only problem i that its plagued with viruses, malicious code, and poorly managed files. What's a good program I can use to erase all the contents, and get this HD back to being useful again?

doesn't exactly erase the contents....but wat the heck....u're not gonna know it's not really erased

It's better to use format c: /u

Does this really get rid of the stuff? thats what i'm, aiming for here, i've tried active kill disk, and when i try that it gives me some "FREEDOS" message and nothing happens, and the seagate tool failed

OK, I popped in a win98 boot disk to access the DOS, and then entered the KILL-DISK, disk, The drive is being wiped now. What do I do next? I want this drive to be a slave for my NTFS 80GIG, that has windows on it.

Using the Seagate drive as the slave, you should be able to use the Disk Mananger of W2K/XP (under Administrative Tools --> Computer Management, or type compmgmt.msc /s from the Run dialog box) to create the extended partition and format the drive for use.
