I'd like to dive deeper into programming. I don't really want to do empty projects. I'd much rather have a focus.

Ideas I have been thinking about is writing forum software in ASP.NET/C# basing the database off of punBB.

Other then that I have no idea. I know C#, ASP.NET, VB.NET, little C++.

My OS is Leopard 10.5 and I have a PHP webserver / Visual Studio in a Windows XP Pro environment.

Maybe I should get into iPhone or Android development?

I'm in a very similar situation as you are. I was thinking of developing some nice Bible software for OS X, but I'm too lazy.

Other than that, I was thinking about software that would be useful to me. I do mostly web development and I have pretty much all I can think of needing.

I had some customer management software that I wanted to create before, but I was going to do it for the web. I might just stick to doing it with OS X though.

Maybe you guys should browse for mini-projects on RentACoder. I used to pick and choose before I got my current job, and it used to be fun. If you have spare time, start learning Java, too.

I have found this list of student projects to be rather interesting. While they are written as Java specific projects, I would say 90% of them could be written in any language. I found Lazy Strings (which could be implemented in java or C#) and Source Code In Database to be two of the more interesting ideas.

My other suggestion is you find problems that annoy you. For example, my first big .net project was a media player. I was really annoyed that most media players don't create bookmarks of where I left off in a movie or audio book, so I built my own. Find something you don't like or something you think "this could be better if..." and then make a better version.

A good project would be to make an event based Soduko solver. If you can make an elegant solver for Soduku (with graphics) you will have learned alot in the process.
