I just assembled a new pc and was gonna burn some cd's full of programs which are really useful to have on a Windows XP setup.
What are some that you guys suggest I include?
(I already have Spybot Search and Destroy, Zonealarm, Ad-Aware, Motherboard Monitor 5) What are some other ones?

(Please link them)

Tnx

Winzip (duh)
Ifran view (Free, fast image viewer)
Avast! (free virus protection with automatic updates)
Winamp
(I bet you're probably slapping your head now... the list continues)
Adobe Acrobat 6.0
Microsoft PowerToys
Trillian (If you IM)

I'll add links later.

Zonealarm is the devil. Tiny Personal Firewall and AVG are both better.
System Mechanic is a great program I mentioned earlier today, check that out as well.

If you're going for free software, add OpenOffice on top of AVG.

Win XP pro SP 1 (W2k if you don't want to deal with activation codes grr I can get any microsoft operating system free through my school but those keys are such a pain in the butt)
Winrar (XP already has zip built in)
3ivx (takes care of all your codec needs)
VLC Video Lan (takes care of anything WMP+3ivx can't handle)
Trillian or AIM (depending on whether you just use One Messanger and if you do file transfer AIM is the better choice)
Direct Connect ++
Bittorrent

7-Zip, I've found, is much better than WinZip and is totally free. www.7zip.org, I believe.

MBM5 will not be developed any further, so that may be a no-go for newer motherboards.

Why are you people installing WinZip on windows XP? Is there something wrong with the built in unzipper? WinRAR, I can see.

Yeah, if your used to WInzip...the XP unzipper is confusing. Besides, it sucks, IMHO.

What sucks so much about the Windows Unzipper?

Also, what could possibly be confusing about that simple as hell windows unzipper (imo you'd have to be a retard to be confused by it)

Like I said I can see installing WinRAR for functionality, or even if you don't like Windows' Zip utility, but WinZip+WinRar=

I guess I'm a retard. I don't like it. Maybe it's too simple. <G> I change all XP machines to the "Classic" look too. Must just be me.
I guess I just got used to WinZip.
WinRAR is good too.

the only thing i would bother with is:

Adobe Acrobat (online)
Adaware (online)
SpySweeper (online)
WinRAR (online)

(office if you need it)
(norton antivirus if you have it)

everything else throughout the years i've started not wasting my time with as its all crap and just more ways to slow the system down.

i use mobo monitor for the first few days to verify proper operating ranges, after that i get rid of it.

basically i have no need for a cd of any kind, just a NIC that works

XP will unzip, but you can't zip with it. Unless I've really overlooked something. Hmmm, maybe I have?
