suggestion for some programs. I just tried to install my audio software and the program would not install saying it only supported XP/Vista.

Then in properties run it as Vista compatibility mode and it worked. Probably won't work for most, but for somethign that refuses to install it may work(it actually thought I was running Windows ME for some reason).

Software:
FFDShow Tryouts

It installs fine however doesn't appear to be working with Windows Media Player. No icons in the taskbar show and the image looks grainy like no video decoding is being done at all.

You don't need it in Win 7. Microsoft is including native Divx, Xvid, H.264, AAC and other popular codecs.

I'd like to see the MPEG-4 ASP codec tested, if anyone gets the chance. Looking at it, I get the impression that MS is not applying any deblocking/deringing, which is pretty important for ASP as otherwise it's fairly blocky even under good conditions. If it's not applying any post-processing, then you'd probably still want to stick with the decoders that come with XviD/DivX since they do said post-processing.

Chrome does not work in 64-bit...there's something you have to add in the shortcut path. Just search Google.

Yep that is exactly why I was surprised. I was taking the statement with a grain of salt sense 7zip works just fine on Windows 7. Didn't get a chance to test it myself yet.

Yep SuperAntiSpyware crashed twice on me too (BSOD) nasty one, another reason why users should remember Win7 is beta.

Anybody got 9700 card working at 1680x1050 res(no option to set that resolution) I know I could in XP.Funny thing is it even grabbed a 9700 driver update and still no 1680x1050 res option.

Chrome worked perfectly for me. Maybe Google already modified the installer?

so SuperAntiSpyware doesnt work on Win7 yet....

what about Spybot?
what about the free versions of AntiVir, Avast or AVG?
what about Firefox, Foxit, Winamp, VLC, MPC, PeerGuardian, SyncBack, Notepad++?

i'm asking because those apps are very popular among geeks. i'll have Win7 installed by Wednesday, so, if no one has tried those apps by then, i'll come back and report my results.
