Pretty good article. It's hard to see and recognize the good that has been accomplished though, when our troops are still getting injured and killed

Having covered the war as an embedded reporter, having conducted the first national poll of the Iraqi people (in concert with Zogby International), and having remained in close touch with the military men and women who are temporarily the princes running the land of the Tigris and Euphrates, I believe this gloomy view is incomplete and inaccurate.

Yeah, I guess he only saw what his buddy Bush told him to see

You proved my point. He ONLY sees the side the soldiers do. If their is no progress, their is still progress. Its the military's way of preventing bad Moral.

Good point, he was an embedded reporter. What does that tell you about his loyalty?

A partisan Democrat says it "smells like Viet Nam" and an embedded reporter has no objectivity because he's with Military units. So this story is trash. Hmmmmmm....I guess the 30 second sound bites on the news of the "real" story are more fitting (maybe not accurate, but who cares). Just sad.:disgust:

Polls..... ALL polls are pure bullSh!t. Ever taken a statistical analyisis course. YOu can determine a result and then seek to prove it. Polls are pure BS.

My reference to vietnam is purely due to the "Daily Body count update". Same thing as vietnam. Hell except now you can can mobile updates on your cell phone or a pager and dont have to watch Walter Cronkite on the Nightly news.

If you want real perspective, get a hold of stars' and stripes and read some of the soldiers letters then read the propaganda and see how much is really differs.

The true situation in Iraq can only be found by mixing the two sides of information. To pretend that the situation is rosy and that everyone wants us there is foolish - but to pretend that this is another Vietnam is ignorant. Only time will tell; it is unfortunate, however, that we will inevitably lose more servicemen in that time.

I do not think any of us here would want to be the ones informing their families.

No - I wasn't talking about poll results
I was talking about HIM BEING THERE INTERVIEWING PEOPLE FOR THE POLL. If you can't get past your ignorant filters then fine - completely dismiss someone who was with the troops, and was also out on the street interviewing people.

Are you talking about the online version of "stars and stripes"? Yeah, I've heard stories from soldiers - talk shows and the like, they call in and paint an etirely different picture than what we get in the mainstream press. There is bias on both sides - but it seems only some of us realize that -the rest only think that the other side is "propaganda".

Oh, and btw - polls aren't pure BS, they have a slant at times but on the overall they tend to reflect the will of the people on the subjects that are asked about. Zogby isn't one of the most reputable polling agencies for nothing...oh and guess what side of the fence he's on(politically?) Democrat maybe?

"Mistakes of Vietnam repeated with Iraq" (op/ed piece in AJC)

Some parallels certainly do exist, as shown by Max Cleland in this Op/Ed piece that appeared in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. As with any op/ed piece, this article is no less (nor more) biased than the one we discuss in this thread. But in the interest of seeing more than one side of the argument, I think it worth reading, regardless of which side of it you lean towards.

And to help you be aware of what point of view he writes from, I'll link to his bio page at American University, where this former US Senator now teaches and works: Max Cleland's Bio.

ahhh Max Cleland. The man who lost three limbs in vietnam who Republicans painted as "Unamerican" and "Siding with the Terrorists" in TV ads in the 2002 election in which he lost. Bill Frisk is later quoted as saying when asked if he authorized the smear campaign that "Its nothing personal"
