i just signed up, got a nexus 5x and a 2gb a month plan for 40$

it's 10$ per GB and you get money back if you don't use the data

so far the reception has been just as good as verizon was for me, but i have to try in more areas

I've been using Fi with my 6P for a few months now. So far so good.

When I signed up for it in Dec. It was limited to areas that have "native" t-mobile towers. Where I currently live, I have them. Unfortunately, where my cell phone number is from they do not, so I could not port my number over.
I wonder if this now has changed, if so i may reconsider. From Google fi, I switched to ringplus.
Oh and if I can bring a moto pure device..

invite only-> changed to signup for anyone

you have to activate the sim on a nexus

but after that, you can move the sim over to a non-nexus device, and get basic service from tmobile (text/data/voice) (if device is technically compatible with tmobile spectrum)

You lose the dual-network functionality (cannot use Sprint), don't have the free VPN tunnel . I don't know if you get full network from tmobile (VoLTE/Wifi calling etc)

coverage has been good so far, but i need to go to a nearby small town and park to see if it's decent there. from the maps, it doesn't look very good there.

Anyway... The only reason I am on it, is because I get pretty much all you can eat, I've gone over the cap many times and it still hasn't affected my speed. Tho, I rarely if ever go over the cap, only when I travel. Rarely do I use more than half a gig ... So dunno.

Mainly why I choose the plan is because ATT just put up a new tower, the rest of the signals are crap, 1 bar if you are standing in the right place. How well would FI work on an ATT only tower?

I'd wait a little longer to hear how the latest update helped things. Up until now a lot of 5x users complained of poor performance, but the latest update had some kernel changes to help.

first month on project fi and I used .64 GB of data. I'm loving the <$30 cell phone bill.

The metered data plan (used to be on unlimited data) has changed some of my habits though. I always make sure to only download new podcasts, app updates, etc. on wifi and I cut my usage of waze (I just use my car's navigation). None of that is any big deal.

Any chance Google would buy Tmobile or Sprint in the future as they seem to be getting in telecom infrastructure. Curious as someone who owns some of these stocks.

Yeah I've been very happy with Fi. My bills have averaged $44 a month and that's with an $18 device payment. So it's more like $26 a month. I can still send/receive email and do basic browsing (price checks, store times, ect) and GPS without going past 100mb a month.

That's fine for most of my needs. I don't *need* unlimited access to netflix or music streaming. I was sick of paying half a car payment for cellular service. Fi has been great coverage wise and the wifi calling/texting is 10x better than T-mobiles.

The wifi calling on Fi is fantastic. It's ability to roam between cellular and wifi is better than any other carrier I've used. Plus with a Nexus phone if you aren't happy with Fi you can just move over to a conventional carrier and not be stuck with a useless phone like a Republic wireless one.

Band 12 is going to give T-Mobile a huge boost in a lot of the country. That will put it on par with Verizon in the rural areas it covers. Even without it I can tell you that I traveled between central KY and Atlanta last fall. It's a very mountainous, rural drive. I was able to keep music streaming on T-mobile the entire time. I've definitely had some places where data craps out on T-mobile (read east of no-where Kentucky) but I'm still able to pick up calls/texts.

Verizon is still the best, no questions. But for the price savings a bit of range anxiety a few times a year is something I'm okay living with.

It's so easy to try out project Fi and switch back if you don't like it. You already have the 6P so you really don't have much to lose. I came from at&t and I'm finding the project fi coverage is as good or even better. I'm really liking the transcribing of my voice mails on project Fi.
