Yes yes. Project Firestorm is my project box Shuttle SB51GB XPC that I recieved in the mail today along with a 200gb Hard drive and a Shuttle Carrying bag. I am still waiting on my Newegg shipment but that dosn't mean I can't get crackin! I wanted to start this thread as a centralized thread for my entire project. All the questions, comments, pictures, cool things, ect I do to my case will be posted on this thread. Hopefully it will both educate and inspire . I have many things planned for my box (some of which have been done here and some that have not) and I want to showcase it all. My goal is to create the best XPC for my specific needs. Without further ado, I present my daily journal:
Day 1, Shipment #1
After recieveing my Shuttle case from the UPS man I immediatly took everything apart. I started with the back and the PSU screws. The PSU was the first thing I removed from the case and I set it asside. Next I took out the drive cage, heat pipe, and motherboard and put every screw for each different part in a seperate baggie. I had a bad experience with blowing out a mobo because I forgot a screw somewhere. It never posted for me again. My next hurdle was to get the face plate off and to do this I had to go out and get a 2.5mm allen wrench from my local Sears Hardware where I also picked up some Black automotive spraypaint (more on that in a few days). After removing the front plate I took out the hex screws and removed the cardboard colored things. I woun't be needing those. Next I grabbed my mom's nail polish remover and started to scrub off the silver stripe on the front of the case (very ugly indeed). The silver is gone but there are still some murky blotches I need to find how to get rid of. After letting that dry I grabbed my dremel and Leatherman tool and started to get working on the PSU and the back of the case. I first removed the cover of my PSU and carefully started to twist off the fan cover on the PSU. I didn't want to dremel it because I left all the electronics inside. It actually came out better than I expected. I plan on doing some major fanage back there. The back of the Shuttle was a different story. It took me around 30 mins to dremel and trim the back fan grille. It looks pretty good but not great. No matter though because its the back of the case . So far things are looking very swell for Project Firestorm. Tomorrow I plan on spraypainting. Everything will be revealed in time friends...
