Promise Ultra100 + Win2K + Latest drivers = problems

I'm using a Promise Ultra100 (firmware v2.01 b27, driver v1.60 b36) with Win2K SP3.
I updated to the latest Ultra100 firmware (v2.20.0.14) and drivers (v2.00.0.39) today.
Now, my computer hestitates quite often, visible by when the mouse cursor stutters when it's being moved around.
Has anyone else experienced this issue with the latest firmware and drivers?

Ironically, the release notes for the newer driver says "Fixes problem with Windows 2000 Service Pack 3."

I had the same problem a couple weeks ago -- uninstall sp 3 and go back to sp 2. That's what fixed it for me.

I hate those Promise Ultra cards... nothing but headaches on my Ultra 100 TX2

wouldn't work while installing games.... try to run a game after install and get mad errors like missing files and crap...

Promise controller card = blah.

I've had issues with all the v2.x Ultra100 drivers for Win2k that I've tried. An earlier version 2.x driver would give me random blue screens in Win2k (something about DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN and having to do with scsiport.sys).

Is v1.60 build 36 the latest v1.x driver for the Ultra100? Promise only has the v2.00.0.39 driver on their web site now.

Well, driver v1.60b36 works fine in Win2kSP3 with one ATA/100 on Ultra100, one cd-rw on primary on-board IDE, and one dvd-rom on secondary on-board IDE.
I just tried adding an ATA/33 HD, and get the same BSOD I described earlier whether I have the drive attached to the Ultra100 or to the on-board IDE. Don't think I'll be adding any more HDs to this system!

Is there another maker of less troublesome Ultra100 cards? Seems every other brand of ATA/100 or ATA/133 cards I see are just rebadged Promise cards.

who makes your motherboard?

I had massive stalling problems with the card on my ECS(sis 735) motherboard, but it works fine on my BP6(BX).

Mine's an Asus P3B-F. I've downgraded my drivers yet again to v1.60 build 32. Seems every time there's a problem with this Ultra100 card, downgrading solves it.
