_ Eliminate tax incentives that encourage companies to ship jobs overseas and reward companies that keep and create jobs in the United States.

_ Enforce protections for American workers in trade agreements.

_ Cut the deficit in half in four years.

_ Cut middle-class taxes and reduce the tax burden on small businesses.

_ Repeal Bush's tax cuts for people making more than $200,000 a year.

_ Institute an education plan that sets high standards, provides for smaller class sizes and demands accountability from parents, teachers, and schools.

_ Give a tax credit for college tuition.

_ Save families up to $1,000 on health care premiums by cracking down on waste and abuse in the system; ensure patients can chose their own doctors; allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors; and allow Americans to buy less expensive prescription drugs from other countries.

_ Invest in vehicles that run on alternative fuels and other energy-saving technology.

If he follows through on even a couple of those he will be doing better than most candidates.

It's not going to matter. After having watched his speech tonight, I see his chances for winning the election dwindling down to near Dukakis levels.

Have you ever made a post that didn't involve childish namecalling against those who disagree with your anarchist world view?

Interestingly, quite a few of those Euro-trash deliver on socialist promises.

Me being childish? No, I'm sorry, it is childish to believe politicians' lies, deceit, fraud and theft is actually good for society. In fact, these beliefs qualify for Fantasy Land material. Unfortunately, they probably won't make a very good children's story.

glenn.....I really don't know what turned you off so much about this speech, but I as well as just about every analyst on every network that I have watched tonight thought it was pretty darn good, in fact most thought it was well above what they thought Kerry could do.
Yes, many parts of it were typical politician blabber. I really am starting to not like this whole postiveness/optimism BS in speeches, now I kinda wish they went back to mudslinging . Anyways, he had a specific agenda tonight: Tell America who he was, use his military record as an advantage against his questionable senate career, explain his plan in more detail, prove he would make a better presidential candidate, and most importantly box George Bush into a corner on the most trusted Republican issues like defense. He is going to get a huge momentum boost from this convention, and I believe he had an amazing speech, considering his subpar performances in the past.

I seem to recall one very important promise from Bush:

No Nation Building.

I agree. For every glenn that Kerry lost tonight, he got 5 more.

Hmmm....

"Restoring honor and dignity to the White House" seems to be vaguely floating in the back of my mind too...

This thread is about Bush? I thought I posted a news story that compiled the list of kerry's promises from his speech tonight. I guess I'll have to double check to OP to see if I linked to the wrong thing...

Shoo! Don't rain on my anti-bush parade!

I understand what you're saying though. I was hoping (via a fast-falling thread I made) we'd agree on what makes a valid 'But Clinton/Bush' argument before it goes out of hand post-election. Anyhoo, point taken

I dunno. I guess I was hoping for a Clintonesque style and prescription for governing, instead it sounded like some recycled Dukakis or Mondale blather. I've been hearing all this week about how the strategy was to re-create the policies and attitudes of the Clinton years, and feel disappointed that it wasn't even close. I've gotten a look at Kerry now, and while I still prefer him over Bush at the moment I'm not excited about him in the least. He sounds like a perfect bureaucrat/egghead/policy wonk who'd be perfect for putting together Agriculture Department reports, not the potential leader of the free world. Instead I'm reduced to hoping that Bush's speech doesn't sound like some late night TV show and am not thinking I'm going to be pleasantly surprised.

No, but being the eternal optimist I am, I thought we might be able to discuss some of those promises. Some seem to be quite vague while others seem sort of "pie in the sky". But that's just my overall opinion of the list of promises.

tallest1 - "shoo" yourself Yeah, I remember seeing your thread but I didn't have time to respond when I read it and then forgot about it. I remember thinking that we have until 2008(2009 actually) to hash out that argument

I honestly didn't expect Kerry to be able to deliver a good speech tonight, and I was prepared for the same old typical Kerry speeches. While his speech wasn't necesarrily energetic or motivating, it solidifed him as a real candidate and choice for president of the USA. He basically took the Republican issues of defense and national security and made them his own and in my mind showed the American people how he would be a much better candidate for commander-in-chief. My problem with the speech is that it focused too much on his Vietnam career, and not enough on what he has done recently. I think he needs to really defend himself against the flip-flop issues in the coming speeches and debates and really show the American people that his actions are as good as his word because I'm getting sick of politician rhetoric.
