I wouldn't go anywhere near rakuten. There's a huge thread over on SD about fraudulent charges appearing on credit cards used on that site.

I believe your 3770 is a better chip than the 4770.

This may explain the two times my credit card number was stolen. PayPal might be the best option.

Yes, avoid Rakuten, unless you enjoy having your CC sucked dry.

Unless you are stupid enough to use your debit card online. You are not losing money by having a CC number stolen.

Over the last 15years I've had 6 instances including 2 with AMEX and 1 recently with Citi.
To date I've not paid 1 bloody cent from any of it and usually have a replacement card available to me same week.

Furthermore several cards offer "virtual number" services that you can use with Rakuten if you want to be "extra careful".

Instead of being afraid of everything that could cause you to have a theft incident, just keep all the relevant information available to you so you can quickly handle the situation. Otherwise you might as well start following the restraunt wait staff, buy a shielded wallet, and never shop at walmart.
