Hope and Change indeed. Gay marriage looks to be defeated in Florida, Arizona, and California. Guess some liberals are not so liberal eh?

Voters get to chose????
What?s next, "should slavery be ok" amendments?
"Should women be banned from voting" amendments?
Should mixed marriages be banned, amendments?
This is an civil rights issue.
The "straight" public should have NO SAY in the issue.
Pure legalized bigotry.

A few. It was reported tonight that the bigots went to minority churches where, ironically, the same people who benefit from civil rights and celebrate Obama, are anti-gay.

We had a mixed night with the historic election of Obsma not only as a non-white President but a Democrat shifting direction for the nation, and the bigotry against gays winning.

The fear tactic is used b/c it works. Some haven't figured that out yet.

There is hope...
Cal can do a #2 prop to void this 8 prop.
But the other side might then do a #3 prop to void the #2 prop that voided their 8 prop.
So another #4 prop could void the #3 prop that voided their #2 prop that voided their 8 prop.
They love their props.
(take notes, there will be a test)

Seriously Craig. Get over it. Voting against gay marriage does not make you a bigot or anti-gay. It makes you anti-gay marriage.

No, it makes you a bigot and anti-gay b/c you are against a gay couple from marrying.

So much for equal protection and rights under the law. I voted no but I guess my fellow Californians saw things differently. I was kind of looking forward to putting this issue to bed once and for all and not have to hear about it again.

This shouldnt surprise you. A large % of blacks are very much social conservatives.

The next big issue will be to reinstate the ban on inter-racial marriages. After all, if Adam and Steve can't get married, why should Lakiesha and Billy Bob be allowed to get married?

One of the arguments for Prop 8 I heard repeated here was that if 8 gets defeated, that would open the door for the legalization of polyamy and perhaps other "un-Christian" forms of marriage...

This type of issue will go away as the younger generation matures and begins to vote. Most people I know, even conservatives my age, do not care about Gay-Marriage. The ones who do are basically bigots, whose biases are not limited to homosexuals.

Hopefully Civil Unions will be approved so that there is at least a stop-gap measure. It isn't ideal, but it's better than nothing.

Prop 8 is currently winning by 4% of the vote. If the gay community can convince 1 in 25 voters to switch positions, then they will get their rights back. My guess is the longest it will take is 10-15 more years.

I'm curious as to what the demographic breakdowns will look like when all is said and done.... wondering if increased african american turn-out was what doomed prop 8's fate.

For a country that loves to tout it's freedoms in the faces of the world I find it highly ironic that given the option the majority of the people here (historically mind you) are so resistant to actually grant rights to those who are without.

Then again it is your Christian duty to not only love the sinner but to mercilessly beat him into submission using the apparatus of the state.

I'm sure the KKK would disagree that they are racist too, but that doesn't make it untrue. If you're uncomfortable with being called a bigot, maybe you should revise your position on the issue. But you can't have it both ways, the idea that you can be anti-gay marriage without being anti-gay is a fantasy invented by people who don't have the stones to wear their bigotry proudly.

Could be. Most polls I've seen suggest that minorities, particularly black people, are much more against gay-marriage (and gay rights in general) than white people are. Which has always seemed ridiculous to me, since the anti-gay attitude being expressed today is almost exactly like what people were saying about black folks a few decades ago. Opposition to gay marriage, while claiming no anti-gay bias, is this decade's "separate but equal".

This.

I voted NO on prop 8 for this reason alone.

I am saddened to see that this passed.

Only positive I can take from this is that the bigots spent more money trying to pass this bill and it won by a much smaller margin than Prop 22 did back in 2000. Hopefully the Supreme Court will strike it down like they did Prop 22. Opinion is already swaying...perhaps another 4 or 8 years and we can get opinion going the other way.

While I support gay marriage and gay rights, I disagree with your statement. It's his right to believe in whatever he wants, and for you to think you have it all figured out is ignorant. Why can't someone be tolerant of gays, but not think they should allow to be legally married? The fact that you refuse to even somewhat tolerate his thoughts and beliefs also makes you a bigot.

Non whites can live, work and enjoy the benefits of public space, but they can't marry whites.

I tolerate them, but think they should not be allowed to marry outside their race.

Therefore, I'm not a bigot.
