I've been lurking for a while so I've seen some of the many unintentional flamefests that arise. I was wondering if it might be possible to allow users to have mod powers over their own threads (power to delete/edit posts) with a mark detailing what post was deleted/edited and why. Obviously the mods would still be able to supersede the user's authority in all issues, but as the OP will most likely give more attention to their thread than a mod, it may help to stem the flamefests.
To prevent abuse of the power, a post to be deleted/edited would be given a warning before editing/deletion, which would also show up in their post. This warning would last for 18 hours (from the rate of posts I've seen in some of the forums, this seems like a good compromise).
