This is an extremely long read but worth it if you take the time. So I won't cut and paste such a huge wall of text.

The gist of it is that the new Text books contain things like "founding fathers founded America based on religion", no mention of founding fathers that were atheist like Benjamin Franklin, etc.

Placing a cartoon with verbiage that is very racist concerning Affirmative action.

Put distorted verbiage concerning taxes with no mention of the many social benefits civilians receive and the infrastructure that is paid for by taxes.

Putting that evolution is not real and or is a unproven belief.. ect.

More religious stuff.. and so on..

They are basically pushing their right wing ideology that is extreme, religious and conservative in the text books. They are omitting a lot of facts.

Texas Text Books set the standard for all school textbooks in ALL States. In fact Pearson is the major publisher and even they had a hard time writing these text books like this and struggled with the content that was demanded of them because so much of it was inaccurate. But they make millions of dollars from Texas that purchase these books. If Pearson goes against the grain then Texas was drop them and find another Publisher.

Several of the books I've used in college were biased and politicized. Since my brain works I was able to avoid being tricked.
Still ticks me off how expensive they were.

I may have to take offense at that one.

What is the response? Do we threaten their federal funding for education, applying growing penalties to deduct from it?

Is it our right to do so, to call Texas on this and strong arm them into complying?

No one should be putting their political ideology or slant in these kids textbooks period. There should be no omissions of facts and history period. Right Text Books with facts only. The problem is the Repubs in Texas think that their ideology is based on facts and they are not.

Your post is full of ideological slant as is mine. How can we open our mouths to say anything and not have what comes out be biased by our understanding, or more properly, by our lack of it? My bias is that we don't know anything but have a delusional belief we do maintained powerfully by our egos. I don't see much chance of us knowing anything so long as we have a need to believe we do.

Just saying.....

I completely disagree. I want only facts placed in the textbooks. Again, no omissions, no distortions based on someone's opinion. Just put in there facts only.

Nah, you want progressive/left facts that are based on progressive/left ideology. BTW, these textbooks didn't just appear out of some right-winger's ass, there was a process that got them approved and printed.

Ho hum. More leftist rage.

Is that a pun or misspelling?

Ben Franklin was an atheist?
According to David Morgan,[142] Franklin was a proponent of religion in general. He prayed to "Powerful Goodness" and referred to God as "the infinite". John Adams noted that Franklin was a mirror in which people saw their own religion: "The Catholics thought him almost a Catholic. The Church of England claimed him as one of them. The Presbyterians thought him half a Presbyterian, and the Friends believed him a wet Quaker." Whatever else Franklin was, concludes Morgan, "he was a true champion of generic religion."

The irony is impressive.

Even worse, they came out of a right wing committee's ass. No one person can come up with that much misinformation & bias.

“The word in publishing was that for California you wanted no references to fast food, and in Texas you wanted no references to sex,

Conservatives afraid of their kids hearing about dildos. Liberals are afraid of their kids hearing about McNuggets. :hmm:

Strange don't you think how the drop in America's Academic Achievement coincides with the nation's schools using edited for Texas school books starting about forty years ago?

You have to make a distinction between Theists and Religion, belief in a Creator and follow our Holy Dogma or die Heretic, are different things. Heck of an idea for refugee Colonists(minority religious sects thrown out of Europe for their beliefs) to try not to repeat the Religious Wars of Europe.

OP claimed Ben Franklin was an atheist. That is completely untrue.

And deeply ironic considering his thread title.

All this religioius shit just freaks me the hell out seriously.. like this from the article:

"Ideas promoted in various proposed textbooks include the notion that Moses and Solomon inspired American democracy, that in the era of segregation only “sometimes” were schools for black children “lower in quality” and that Jews view Jesus Christ as an important prophet."

"Two government textbooks include misleading information that undermines the Constitutional concept of the separation of church and state."

"All of the world geography textbooks inaccurately downplay the role that conquest played in the spread of Christianity."

"Several world geography and history textbooks suffer from an incomplete – and often inaccurate – account of religions other than Christianity.
Coverage of key Christian concepts and historical events are lacking in a few textbooks, often due to the assumption that all students are Christians and already familiar with Christian events and doctrine."

"Elements of the Texas curriculum standards give undue legitimacy to neo-Confederate arguments about “states’ rights” and the legacy of slavery in the South. While most publishers avoid problems with these issues, passages in a few U.S. history and government textbooks give a nod to these misleading arguments."

WTF Texas??

If you want to teach religion send your kid to a church for that, not our public school system please.

You do realize you complained that the textbooks didn't teach Christianity right?

Those outraged at the textbooks are probably are just fine with kids singing praise to Obama in school.

Oh and you forgot the school kids that sang this?

Our country’s stood beside us
People have sent us aid.
Katrina could not stop us, our hopes will never fade.
Congress, Bush and FEMA
People across our land
Together have come to rebuild us and we join them hand-in-hand!

I have heard some people say this about him based on their interpretation of his quotes from history. Could be possible.. true.

Reddit has banned the huffpoo post for plagiarism and flat out making stories up but I guess it's still good enough for this forum.
