Protecting mouse feet?

Just ordered the MX518 and the funcpad, and I was wondering if there was something you could use to protect the mouse's feet. I've looked at the Zerofriction Mouse Skates on Newegg but do these work from keeping the feet from wearing down, or do they only make it smoother? Anyway, thanks for your help and suggestions!

Why protect them? They're there specifically to provide contact with the surface. Something like MouseSkates is only needed if the existing ones have been worn down really bad.

Protecting the mouse feet is like trying to keep your hat from being exposed to the sun.

would the func mousepad even wear down the mouse feets? I heard it's pretty good and it doesn't wear it down

Any two surfaces in contact with each other and moving will eventually wear down. Might not be within your lifetime though.

yea...that's pretty obvious but what i meant was that how long until it WEARS down the mouse feet, when i said it doesn't wear it down i meant there is so little wear that it would not matter...

By the time they're worn down, it will be time to buy a new mouse. After two or three years, laser mice lose their accuracy and start to skip. They're so cheap, you can just buy a new one.

It depends on how you hold your mouse and how often you use it, I've had a func 1030 for a few years and the pad is still fine but it ate the feet on my MX500 mouse and its on its way to eating one of the feet on my MX510 mouse, due to the way I hold the mouse I tend to only wear out 1 or 2 of the feet first and have to replace them w/ teflon stick on tape as the mouse gets older.

I've had my MX510 for a year and nothing has changed with the feet, they're practically new. I'm on the computer at least 6 hours a day BTW so it gets used A LOT. I also have a cheapo mousepad if that matters.

I have yet to experience mouse feet being worn out to the point the mouse cannot be used anymore. I use regular el cheapo mouse pad too. Maybe it's the way you hold or press down too much on the mouse. At any rate, if the feet are worn out before you decide to replace your mouse, then maybe you should buy extra set of mouse feet and be ready to replace them when that time comes. They do not cost that much. Hopefully, this will boost your confidence on your pad and mouse feet.

The mouse is fine. If you really do use it that much, then just replace the feet when they are gone. I am useing my mx1000 on a wood desk, and all is okay for me. The feet are designed for that kind of stuff.

Ask my old Logitech mouseman! The feet were completely worn off by the sUrface on the 1030 pad. It was so worn, it started to wear into the plastic edges where the feet were previously. It's a great pad though other than this. So yah, a protective foot or something for the mouse would be great with that pad!

I use the cloth with rubber bottom. When they get dirty enough I change them. Usually about a year or less time in between change. But then these cloth mouse pads are like 3 pcs for $2.00 or maybe less.
