PS-2 or X-Box?

If I was buying now, and didn't have either: XBox.

If I had PS1 games and/or was buying when the XB first came out: PS2.

Personally, I'll stick with the PS2. Yeah, XB has better graphics, but the huge game list for PS2 is enough to make me stick with it.

I used to really like the PS2 but recently having played more and more X-box I think it looks alot better than the PS2 and runs faster too.

Thanks for all the replies, and advices. I think I'll with the X-Box, because:

• I don't own a PS-1.

• Most of my gamings are on comp.

• It's not for me, it's for my gf's sister (a present two years due), and I don't like RPGs that much.

• Even though it's Microsoft, it doesn't have bundled software, and I can upgrade it.

Gamecube unless you want the XBOX as an HTPC. Even with my XBOX currently connected, I'd rather have an HTPC.
My XBOX has gotten 0% of the playtime despite having component cables for all consoles and it being the only true-HD one out of the bunch (I don't consider XBOX Media Player and XSNES9X and other HTPC-capable software running on an XBOX to be "XBOX Playtime"). It's all about gameplay and that's all exclusively on the Gamecube (Not as biased as it sounds ).
Heck, even my N64 is getting infinitely more playtime than my XBOX... People have been coming over nightly for Mario Kart 64 and Goldeneye 007. I guess they've had a resurgence in popularity! I showed my friends Mario 64 & Mario Kart 64 running on my Gamecube using the ripped N64 emulator (From the Zelda bonus disc) and they had me break out the original. Been almost nightly ever since (Though I enjoy Super Mario Kart more and have tried enticing them for JUST ONE round of four-player Mario Kart Super Circuit).

I just got Steel Battalion for XBOX so at least *I* intend to give it a little more playtime but other than that I always just wait for the PC ports (Splinter Cell, Halo, etc).

i believe its safe to say that without the illegal activities the xbox is capable of and the relative ease of achieving them there would not be such a large support for it. Just goes to show the Sony obviously knows how to lock down their system much better than microsoft. How many wires does it take to get a fully non boot disc/plays every game mod chip installed on a PS2 as opposed to Xbox.

oh and one other thing, Gran Turismo.

Get a XBox and mod it. Modded xboxes can run just about all emulators and are awesome entertainment centers. Xbox Scene

Otherwise, get a GCN for all the Nintendo exclusives.

GC cuz of PC ports of most other consoles' games. nintendo has the greatest variety of stuff that u will never see released for pc.

Sony knowingly releases defective hardware (DREs). And keeps doing it. There was a design flaw from the beginning that has never been rectified. Though it doesn't show up in every PS2, just a statistically significant percentage of them.
