I generally take people's claims of bad units witha huge grain of salt because they are seeing really small sample size but since you are seeing a larger sample size I have to say I would be very very concerned with what you are seeing. 10 out 100+ is a very bad RMA rate. Seriously if you are getting legitimately ~10% of units as defetive or dead that is very bad...and I would switch suppliers immediately. Given that I can see why GY is a little dismayed by defending the product and I think you may want to look at the product you are stocking/selling a little more objectively.

In all honestly maybe 10 could be as low as 5-6, and 100+ could be close to 200. Those figures were off the top of my head anyhow. Regardless, the Fuhjyyu syndrome is real and Antec is aware of the issue as well. However when someone assumes that the new Seasonic built Antec's will suffer the same fate, bashes them for the use of 'inferior' caps, then goes on to recommend them to others, it really doesn't make any sense at all. Obviously the credible review houses (SPCR, HardOCP, JG, etc.) haven't dinged the EarthWatts, Trio, and NeoHE for the capacitor selection. If they have then I must have failed to notice it.

As long as they are educated opinions and not rambling incoherent fanboy opinions I don't have problems with them.

Oh and JediYoda before you even begin ripping jonnyGURU's content again remember we still disagree with one another on the use of Teapo's. But oh wait that is a different opinion....funny how that works....
First of all why not use your Spectre name? Yet I guess the name you registered with is fitting-- MrOblivious!!!

You have issues with me promoting and using the information on Jonny`s site as factual to prove your brother wrong??

I have never ripped on Jonny`s content ever!
In fact jonny`s contect was used with links to the content to prove with facts from jonny`s site that Galvanized has a total unfounded bias towards Antec!!
For you to read what I posted as facts from Jonny`s own site as bias against Jonny is nieve and very immature on your part!!

But I am flattered that you would attempt to come to Galvanized defense or shall we say try to keep a sinking ship afloat!!!

Whats interesting is you sling around the word educated -- yet it`s obvious for some people it`s lacking....

case in point-- even the good people at badcaps.net and even Johnny himself has stated --(to use a site that your brother uses often) have said that Teapo caps are just fine when used in PSU`s....but on mothrboards it`s a different story...

Unless now your going to attempt to prove that Teapo caps are bad and even Johhny has said that`s is a sleeping dog that has no merit when talking about PSU`s!!

So go read what Jonny has to say then come back after you have educatd yourself and we can talk!!

Have a nice day!!

That`s the point both you and GY have to be brothers...hypocrisy runs in the family!!

You can`t have it both ways!!

The point has been made that Jonny as well as other site have given the Antc Earthwatts glowing reviews.......
http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=51

So let's start with judging the performance...

I, for one, am surprisingly impressed. The voltage regulation on the +12V was beyond excellent. The efficiency was great. The unit has active PFC and seemed to be impervious to heat and, despite using an 80MM fan, was nearly silent.

That said, the +5V, although no longer as an important rail as it used to be, did not show good regulation and overall the unit does not put out much power. Yes, it's a 500W... but use the Enhance or Silverstone 80 Plus 500W units for comparison... They have 432W on the combined 12V rails. This Antec only has 408W on the 12V rails!

So my score for the Antec EarthWatts EA-500 is 9.5.

For functionality, I look at the number of connectors, length of cables, and other features that make the PSU easier to use or install. The size of the unit is nice and compact, the cables are nice and long, and there are enough connectors for most people. Too bad the cables aren't sleeved and certainly the unit doesn't have any features that make it stand out like modular connectors a "Total Watt Viewer", adjustable voltage POTs or a fan controller (not that it needs it.)

For functionality, I'm scoring this 500W with an 8.

Now to judge the appearance. There's not much going on here. As I mentioned, the cables aren't sleeved. The color is drab. I'm afriad the aesthetics give this power supply a 6 in this department.

Finally, we're going to talk about the value of this power supply. You're certainly not paying for any additional bling here, but the performance is very good. In the long run, this power supply will also save you money on your electric bill and it's by far one of the quietest units I've ever used. I Froogled this unit and it's widely available for under $90. That's fantastic for those looking for a power supply that's efficient and quiet, assuming this 500W has enough power for your rig.

So for value, the Antec EA-500 scores a 10.

Multiply, add and add again and we have a total score of 9.

Performance 9.5
Aesthetics 6
Value 10
Functionality 8
Total Score 9

JonnyGURU recommended!!---hmmmm

Then because of your bias against Antec instead of taking Jonny`s word and his reviews as fact you back pedal and bring the good people of badcaps.com into this to try to support your slippery position.

I'm not one to usually do this but I'm in over my head when it comes to the quality segment of PSU purchases. I'm currently on a 550WT Rosewill with dual 18A on the 12V and it's been doing great, but I'm moving to a new setup in the next 2 months and I'm getting the case and PSU now to offset some costs.

My choices are.....

Mushkin 580 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/...p?item=N82E16817812004

Corsair 520 - http://www.clubit.com/product_...l.cfm?itemno=CA6200026

OCZ 600 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/...p?item=N82E16817341010

Warranty is a semi-big deal to me, and Corsair/Mushkin have the longest at 5 years. If you guys had to chose between those 3, or could recommend another one at that same $100 price point, what would it be? I'm not too concerned about loudness/volume either.

I'll be using an Enermax Uber Chakra case. Modular vs Non-Modular makes no difference to me. I want quality, reliability and longevity.

truth be told IMO you cannot go wrong with Corsair.
yet-- OCZ also makes a descent PSU that would work well!! yet according to jonnyGURU who is usually correct btw-- it`s a loud PSU .
So it looks like the EvoStream 600W gets an overall score of 8.5!

Performance 9
Aesthetics 9
Value 7.5
Functionality 8.5
Total Score 8.5

SUMMARY:

It's hard not to love the EvoStream. It's like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. "Hey! You got a server power supply in my modular gamer power supply!" But unlike a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, the EvoStream is loud and expensive. I suppose the best way to wrap this up is to say that if money is no object, and you crank up your speakers way beyond the noise level of this power supply's fan, I can't talk you out of getting an EvoStream for yourself if 40A on the 12V rail is enough power.

The Good....

Rock solid rails
Modular
Nice finish
Nice UV reactive cables
Blue LED fan
The Bad....

Very loud fan
Very expensive
The Mediocre....

Mediocre efficiency
Cables were stiff and difficult to manipulate
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Muskin I have not heard that many good things or bad things about them.
yet according to JonnyGURU--
Ok.. At this point, I'm sure you're quoting Steve Martin from the Pink Panther movie."Stop browbeating her! Can't you see she is sexy!"

Let's just score it...

Performance 5
Aesthetics 9.5
Value 6
Functionality 9
Total Score 6.5

Performance (weight of 40%) gets a 5. This power supply simply does little for me, outside of actually putting out 550W. Efficiency could be better, there's no power factor correction, and the performance decreased significantly when temperatures were increased. The crossload shows that a computer with a minimal load on the 3.3V and/or 5V rails is going to wreak havoc on the 12V rails and the excessive ripple on the 12V line makes me contemplate potential long term effects on peripherals.

Aesthetics (weight of 10%) is 9.5. The mirror finish looks great and the modular cables will make the inside of your PC look great too. The embossed "Mushkin" on the side of the housing is a nice touch too!

Value (weight of 30%) score is a 6. At $80, this is certainly an inexpensive unit. But I wouldn't trust it to a high end system, so I'm reluctant to call it a "good value"

For functionality (weight of 20%,) I'm giving this power supply a 9. It's modular and compact, making it very easy to use.

Overall, the Mushkin HP-550 manages to score a "6.5" Simply put, I don't recommend this product. But do not let this affect your impression of Mushkin power supplies overall. It needs to be said that the XP series is based on a completely different platform and is supposed to be at a completely different performance level as the HP series.

SUMMARY:

I think I said it best when I was laying down why the performance score was only a 6. Outside of actually putting out 550W, efficiency could be better, there's no power factor correction, and the performance decreased significantly when temperatures were increased. Ripple was high and crossloading potential is evident.

The power supply looks nice, the cables are nice and they're modular, but you can't bank everything on a power supply looking uber-smooth. This product has the Mushkin name on it, so people are going to have high expectations. I know I did.

The Good....

Modular
Nice cables
Nice miror-like finish
The Bad....

Voltages not very stable
Totally failed crossload tests
The Mediocre....

No PFC
Mediocre efficiency
Lots of ripple, even during middle-load testing

Go to JonnyGUGU.com and start looking here for the full reviews-- of the 3-- Muskin sucked!!

John,
The one time I recommended an Earthwatts I stated that the Enhance ENPxxxxGh unit would be a better bet. At the time I think it was CC that had it for $50 w/o rebate...so what... big deal, the member was looking to power a low demand system and the Enhance was $10~$15 more.

Antec is/was aware of the Fudgeyou syndrome?? Kripes! Antec told CWT to fit them because it saved maybe $5 per unit...Got it! Do you really think Seasonic went out of their way to populate the Earthwatts with low end OST when everything else they build has Nipponese caps? Like their own, Corsair and PCP&C Silencers. How dense are you?
Note: The TP/SP units that do live 3+years are in low demand systems with cool ambients...betcha!

As stated by me several times, no reviewer can cycle a system for 2000+ hours for review purposes.

Sheesh!! This kind of BS is why I asked DerekWilson to remove all titles from my person here. I did not want to be a jr mod under an....well, the words would get me a vacation. See if they will make JY your jr mod! boy that will be fun.
As far as being an Elite on this board..my ego could well do w/o that title. I've seen far too many hide behind it or abuse it in other ways. Meh! I have a life beyond AT.

And yes, someone worthy of respect on this board warned me that you would be doggin' me because you are petty, holding life long grudges.

My last post in this thread but I will be around.

You've recommend the EarthWatts on several occasions. Again, why would you even recommend a psu that you feel uses inferior components? Honestly it doesn't even make the least bit of sense. Maybe a low power draw on the psu for now, but in the event the user upgrades to C2Q + G80 now what?

The rest of your post is exactly the kind of tripe I would expect from a gutless coward. It's a shame that you deem it necessary to cry about not getting your way and venturing off topic. You also have a nasty habit of repeating private discussion in public posts in order to draw attention to yourself. I suggest that you tread lightly from now on.

Then you don`t want me to support my position based on other people`s reviews??

Your goofy dude!!

Jonny`s site alone tears apart anything your brother(GY) says concerning Antec PSU`s......

Unlike Galvanized who is spewing forth his own personnal bias towards Antec....
I for one find it interesting and comical that you think I should`nt us Jonny`s site to show how biased your brother is....

I for one almost always link to what I am using to disprove what has been spewed forth....
Most people on Anand`s forum are intelliegent enough to be able to use the link provided if they choose and read the whole review!!

If you claim I am picking and choosing well then all you have to do is use Jonny`s own reviewe to support Galvanizedyankee`s FUD!!!
Take what I have posted and prove that Antec is as bad a GY claims them to be?
You can`t---so quit crying!!

You can`t thus you resort to kindergarten hijinks and tell me I should`nt use Jonny`s site.
That`s sad in and of itself......so maybe HARD should quit reviewing PSU`s and allow people to make there own decisions based on what ........lolol

Personally I have nothing in any reviews of yours to warrant being posted .

I have stated my opinion countless times--- concerning Antec PSU`s......but I am smart enough to be able to support my opinion by using tools afforded me by the internet......none of this crapola well the jury is still out....or well the good people capRUs.com say......

Links plz......

That`s what I thought....
Have fun being a Mod at -- site http://hardforum.com/index.php !!!

You aren't posting just links you are ripping pages/ and large portions of text from peoples reviews and reproducing them wholesale as your defense. Those aren't your words and they aren't words the author has used in a particular sitaution.

As for my reviews you can use 20 words or 1 paragraph with a link.

I for one find it interesting and comical that you think I should`nt us Jonny`s site to show how biased your brother is....

No I told you not to rip large postions of peoples reviews and reproduce them.

Personally I have nothing in any reviews of yours to warrant being posted .

I am literate you know.

Secondly--- Posting links to a review does NOT constitute any copyright infringement.
I don`t need your permission to post a link to other peoples work as long as i don`t take credit for that work.

You aren't posting just links you are ripping pages/ and large portions of text from peoples reviews and reproducing them wholesale as your defense. Those aren't your words and they aren't words the author has used in a particular sitaution.

As for my reviews you can use 20 words or 1 paragraph with a link.
It is in the TOC.
