What a weird concoction. Only $100, actually seems pretty cool, also doubles as a remote-play PS4 player (so you could play your PS4 on a second TV if someone is using the main one for Monday Night Football or whatever).

At the same time, is Vita really successful enough for this to be relevant? Bigger in Japan perhaps? This seems like a niche product that won't change a lot. Would be cool to see if it gets hacked though, and to see how good of a video streaming box it actually is.

This is something I'll wait and see on. Looks interesting but doesn't seem like it's a worldwide product, just Japan only.

This..could potentially be awesome. I'd pay the premium to get my Vita/PSP games on the TV, and it acts as an extender.

Vita does play PSP and PS1 games too (via PSN store only) so you can play a little Wing Commander or Final Fantasy VII while waiting for the next Vita release.

I don't have a long commute or travel, so this would be perfect for me.

I have to imagine this is the kind of stuff Sony wanted U.S. customers to see as well, which is why they had the conference with an English stream.

I can't imagine this wouldn't come to the U.S., but if it doesn't I will definitely import one. Vita is region free and allows language selection, and I would pay $100 just for the ability to stream the PS4 to different TVs in the house.

Couple of articles that cover what's so impressive about the Vita TV.

The Vita TV was the last thing that was shown at the press conference, and it really brought the whole thing back for me. The majority of the conference was full of games that will probably never make it out of Japan, so it's really hard to care. Although, part of the reason why the Vita TV is so interesting is because it fills in Sony's greatest omission on the handheld Vita: no TV-out. If the Vita had TV-out, it wouldn't really be necessary to even consider one of these since you could just hook the Vita up and stream.

Although, I have one question about this thing. The Vita only has two shoulder buttons, but the DualShock 3 has two triggers as well. Sony has said in the past that to make Vita streaming work, developers simply have to map the buttons to work without the triggers. So... will the triggers work on the DualShock 3 with the Vita TV? Also, why not design it to also work with the DualShock 4? "Hey, we built this amazing controller for our next-gen console that's based on all of the feedback that you gave us, but when you want to play it remotely, you get to use that really shitty controller that everyone hated! GL HF!"

There's speculation that it will be updated later with PS4 controller support to support some touch in Vita games, possibly by the time this is released to the US.

I almost want that more than I want a launch PS4. I've never owned a Vita, but have a decent sized backlog thanks to Playstation Plus.

Can't they also make the PS4 play Vita games? Come on, SONY, you can do it.

This looks interesting. I especially dig the PS4 remote play feature. Great way to get your PS4 to any television in the home.

I'll wait and see. definitely want to get a real Vita first.

Wouldn't that require them to just shove a Vita in to the PS4?

Much like the PlayTV, or the PSP camera, this will probably be something that will never see the light of day outside Japan.

I do like the idea of a cheap media streaming box. The fact that it plays games is a big bonus. However, I'm just not sure how popular it would be. Seems like a niche device.

Yes, that would up the value of the PS4 for me by ~$200, since I don't have a PSP or Vita and you wouldn't need memory cards.

They are also changing the screen from OLED to LCD.

I only use my PS3 to steam using the lovefilm application.

I just don't understand the point of this product. I never used a Vita, so maybe it was missing that full screen experience? I can't see this selling well outside of Japan.

It's a $100 gaming console that can stream media and do PS4 remote play. It isn't difficult to see the value. This thing clearly has more value than roku or Apple TV...

Even though the Vita TV costs just $100.

unlimited free memory cards using the PS4 hard drive. The Vita TV only has 1 GB of game storage and Vita memory cards are not cheap.

Plus it would save needing to hook another device to my TV.

I can't help but think that this will limit a developer's desire to make a game that is good for a portable, but rather one that is made to be played with the DS3 on a TV if this device becomes popular. The Vita is already struggling and a price drop etc is great but I wonder if Vita TV will split the market between portable game machine and Sony's version of the Ouya.

Playing my vita and psp games on the big screen? heck yeah, I'm interested. Definately import if it doesn't get released here.
