Well, I received my PS2 today and it looks new, not refurbished. Problem is, every online and B&M retailers are out of PS2 Memory cards? wtf? Well, they do have the crappy Interact ones but I won't take those even if they gave those away. (Compressed memory card that you have to load the CD every single time before you start, so it blows) Is there a some sort of a PS2 memory embargo that I am not aware of?

I was at an EB a few weeks ago and overheard the guy working their telling another customer they they are no longer making the memory cards as the Hard Disk upgrade would be the way to go... Not sure if that's true but you might find some in local B&M.

Mr. Pink: Can you tell us the model number, and the first two digits of the serial, the first four digits of the PTxx number, and the 'date code' (found in lower left corner of the sticker on the back of the console) of your unit?
e.g. SCPH-3000x, Serial number U2xxxxxxxx, PT21xxxxxxx, Datecode 1B

This is helpful to determine the PS2 version.

Stupid Overstock.com, said they are drop shipping the unit at Ohio to save time (1 day as they say it). As of today still no tracking on UPS. It would have arrived already if they shipped it straight out from Utah!! :disgust:

mine's 30001, U4, PT14, 1B. Hope that helps. What version would that be anyway? (although I guess that information would be only good if i can somehow get a Messiah mod...)

Good enough for the M chip! 1C is the one that has problems.

Congrats Mr. Pink, you got yourself either a Ver. 3 or Ver. 4 PS2 console!

P.S. I've just spent 9 hours modding a ver. 5 PS2 and finally got it to work

There's certainly a shortage of 8mb memory cards on the net made by sony. I can't find them anywhere online or locally. If they're thinking of going w/ the HD then how much is that gonna be? I saw that there's a zip drive for the ps2. heh. I hope they're not gonna stop making these memory cards. Mine says it got shipped on the 8th, been 6 days already. UT to PA. hrm.

My PS2 GT bundles came yesterday. They're brand new! Unfortunately they just came with GT3 game and not the extra controller + memory card. Still a great deal with no tax!

Well, looks like any PS2 memory cards that doesn't use a compression scheme is hard to come by. (Don't ever get any card that use compression unless u like losing 40+ hours of game data) I doubt Sony would phase out mem cards for HDs since I hear HD is a slow seller even in Japan. Also, you lose portability. It would be nice if you can use one of those usb card drives or a firewire drive on it to save, since you can get bigger size than 8 mb. Would a PS1 mem card work on a PS2 game? I know that they work fine on PS2 for saving PS1 games, but I"m not sure it will work with a PS2 game.

I guess I am a lucky one... I just got myself a SONY memory card for 34.99 1 block from my house (I live in brooklyn, ny).
If anybody interested the store has like 5 of them left. It is located on 86st and 24 ave (not sure on avenue though.. it is in the same block as LIBS beauty school). When I asked the guy in EB store where are the cards he told me that SONY didn't ship any since mid december but they are suppose to get them sometimes next week or the week after. So check with your local Electronic Boutique.
Good luck to all... and yes.... I am still waiting to get my PS2 from overstock..... I got the cards, the games but no system

The 1C can still use the USBMod and GS, but I don't think that setup allows for DVDR backups. But, no one I'm friends with has any DVDRs, so my setup is good for now.

Speaking of memory cards, I've been checking at the local WalMart here for the last couple weeks and they haven't received any of them. At first I thought it was just b/c of the Xmas rush, but it's been three months now. I'm just glad I picked up one before Xmas and before MadCatz lost their license.

I think NYKO or someone like that is supposed to release their new licensed 8meg cards in the next couple weeks. I think it's $24.99 compared to the Sony version at $34.99.

If you have a version 5 board with USBMOD or NEO2 + R-Mod you can play dvdr I'm still after the M chip setup but it seems they are almost extinct...so hard to find!

Got mine today. It's brand new.
BTW, anybody can tell me how to hack the machine to play imported games?
Thanks a lot!

Well, I know the Messiah mod and Neo 4.1 allows the playing of imports. However, you need to solder about 26 points for both mods, and it is impossible to find the messiah. I myself is going with Neo 2.5 although it can't play imports. You only have to solder 5 point with it. It's too bad since I was looking forward to getting Para Para Paradise.

Mr. Pink,

Thanks for your advice. I just found some USB mod chips from www.modchipstore.com. It says the USB mod chip will fit for all PS models.
Can I just use that one to do the job?
Any suggestions will be welcome.
