Heyo. My PS2 broke and I would like to try and repair it myself, i really got nothing to lose. Sony wants $75 to repair it (plus the cost to ship it there), so i figured i might as well try my hand at it, i've got some helpful tools like a soldering iron and a multimeter. It would really help if i had a guide to help me, anyone know where a good PS2 self reapir guide is? Link me up.

The problem is that it just won't power up. If you have any advice on how to maybe fix it i'd like that as well.

Yeah, make sure it's plugged in. Beyond that, do you even get the red standby light while it's plugged in? If not, you might be able to just take it apart and replace the power regulator(?) board.
As for instructions, there is this amazing tool called Google. Maybe you've heard of it?

How did it break? Did you turn it on one day and it smoked and smelled? Did the power adapter pop when you plugged it in? Did you even consider a different power cord?

you probby just need a new power module for it.. It's basically a board that attaches to it. You can find the one you need by the model number.

I've repaired two ps2's now. Both needed a new laser since the wires connecting to the laser are very delicate and they are prone to break. However, they would still power up - just nothing would be read from the CD.

Just be careful how you take it apart. Be mindful of the milimeter numbers besides the screws and for what board they come out of. The older PS2's seem a lot more complicated than the newer models. And, they vary greatly from model to model on the inside.

The way I take apart any electronics is I use a sheet of paper and have a label for each board that comes out of it. Then, I draw litle circles with the board label and put the screws inside the circle. You can section the circles when there are different size screws that come out of the same board..

So.. say there's 3 motherboards.. You label the first one to come off "A" and the the two 6mm screws you would put in the "A" circle along with the two 12mm screws.. just write the numbers beside them (if there are numbers.)

If there are a lot of boards or a ton of screws, it is also helpul to draw a mini picture of the board and just position the screws accordingly..

What, you think AT can answer questions that Google and some common sense cannot?

I was asking for recommendations on a good PS2 guide. I could probably find one googling, but If someone knows a good one and is kind enough to link it, that would be nice.

Plus all i found when searching google were guides or repair sites that cost money.
