SONY PS2's are a piece of garbage. why would you spend 300 dollars on crap???? I played it at my friends house and I was like 300 dollars for this crap. I was expecting Final fantasy Cutscene type of gameplay during the whole deal. not those ugly polygonal craps. The game i played was kessen and supposedly kessen had the best graphics out of all the release games. and kessen didnt have final fantasy 7 cutsene type of graphics bleah. CRAP CRAP CRAP. ill wait till it drops to 150 dollars then get it. by that time game programmers would have actually figured out how to use the vector units efficiently. but until then all those who spent 300+ for a PS2 well it shows how dumb you are. Sony should stick the the walkman.

Laugh, I know all of you who bought it are regretting it.
Was it really worth the 300 dollars? when you can get it cheaper later on. When they actually perfect the games. I'll tell you one thing.
this isnt a whine or rant. Im just trying to bring logic into it.
Seriously. I hear the only Real good game out right now is SX.
And i tell ya. no new GOOD game is coming out till maybe March.
or April. depending how long it takes developers to make efficient
PS2 games. I hear the guy Making Metal Gear SOlid 2 has to spend
4x the resources to make the game because it is hard to develop for.
so why get it for 300? or on egay for 700-800. when you can buy it with GOOD games or GREAT games when the PS2 drops to 200 dollars or yet. 150????
I thought people in anandtech wanted Great Value and Great Deals.

eventhough this post may not belong here, i would have to agree. the PS2 is not a hot deal until it is around $150. one of my roommates got it. i've noticed little difference between the PS2 and the PS1. most of the games still suck and nowhere near being as good as gaming on my computer. i think that my roomate that got the system feels the same way since he is so defensive when me or any of the other roommates say anything bad about the the PS2.

yeah...my roomate has had dreamcast for over a year and we have been enjoying wonderful graphics/gameplay for over a year. the ps2 comes out and from what i hear side by side comparisons of the same game show that the dc is just as good if not better than ps2 (dc is also cheaper, more games, available)...everyone was so quick to drool over ps2 just b/c ps1 was good...i personally think the x-box will dominate (msoft has a zillion dollars backing the thing)

I have had the dc for over a year now and am very happy to be getting rid of it. I thought that he games were pretty poor for the most part. I'll admit that the ps2 doesn't have any killer aps just yet, but it has a lot more life left in it then the dc for sure.

Considering that you'd pay $210 for the Sony DVPS360, $300 for that and a gamesystem seems pretty reasonable.

Windboy: why would you expect FF cut scene graphics the whole way? Those are CGI rendered graphics, and there's no gainful way to build a user interface using those, unless you use the old "dragon's lair" standby. Was the game fun? You know, to some extent, people buy game systems to enjoy themselves. I will admit I'm disapointed by the hardware specs of the PS2, but it isn't hardware that makes great games, its developers. The N64 had (has) far superior graphics to the PSX, but their developers were making BioHazards, and Xena: Warrior Princess instead of Metal Gear, and FinalFantasy. Thus, PSX basically dominated the N64 in sales. Ok, I'm just babbling... ...and if the games are crap, then, yeah, sony's screwed, although having a dvd that plays all your PSX favorites is kinda nice, reduces cable clutter, etc.

noxipoo: that "s-video thingy" makes video so much cleaner and brighter, once you start using it, you will never want to use composite video again. You don't need one to play the PS2, but there isn't much point in having a dvd player without at least s-video cabling in place.

I'll wait for the PS2 prices to drop a bit and the games to mature. Until then, it's my Dreamcast, college T3, and my trusty Plextor 12x... if you know what I mean.

If everyone waited a couple months to buy it, then it would be a total bomb and no one would have one. Early adopters keep products alive for people with less money so get off your high horses and quit bashing people for buying something they wanted.

This kind of thing happens everytime a new console is released "why should i buy a genesis when there are so many great games out for my nintendo? and my nintendo is so much cheaper!"

dvd is not good on the ps2...also the dc has excellent games...i own a ps and have played the n64 and seen the ps2 at action...i got great entertainment out of the dc (more than out of ps1...nfl2k is much better than madden and i do know about the little bugs and that is all that matters to me.

What's wrong with the DVD on the PS2? I don't have one to test it extensively (but i friends that have used it without complaints), but i haven't heard of any complaints in that area yet. I was planning on replacing my DVD player (so i can give it to my parents) with the PS2 after xmas.
