PS2 disk tray barely opens

I had a ps2 working for awhile now...no disk errors...ran great...it's been awhile since I touched it...so I decded to go back and play socom again...except...well the tray opens about 1/4th of the way then stops...after that it sits for about 5 seconds...then it closes again...I opened it up...took off the cd cover and it looked ok...I'm no expert on ps2's (first time opening it up) so I don't really know what to look for...nothing's blocking the tray from opening from what I can tell anyways...I also used the credit card trick where you slide that tab and open it manually...but sure enough...even opening it up manually still only opens about 1/4th of the way and I don't want to force it...

any suggestions? I don't have any warranty on it...which is why I decided to open it in the first place...

Sounds like maybe your disc got jolted inside and it's preventing it from opening. Shake it around a bit to see if you can hear the disc jiggle. Knock on it with the palm of your hand to see if you can jar it loose.
