Expert Advice Needed

I'm looking to buy a used ps2,, it's SCPH-30001 R,, which is V.5, for 75bux i know it's in good condition, I just want to know if theres any inherent problems in the v5 or capatability issues, because i plan to play imported /backed up games..

Options for me are Mod chip, although they say it's easy for people with any solder level, I think they're lieing cuz those solder points are dame small.

Second is the Boot disk via Swap card.. I don't really understand how it works , , but isn't the disk spinning while u remove it?? correct me if i'm wrong. Is there any damage that might be done to the PS2 with this option..

TIA..

I don't know much about the diff models. If you have soldering experience you should be fine modding the ps2. I never really used a solering iron before and was able to mod my ps2, it took some time and there a few OH SH!T moments, but its not THAT bad

They are not hard to mod if you have decent soldering skills. I've seen it done and you really do need to be careful. Do not do one of the swap methods, except maybe the swap disc method with the flip-top. The other options are just bad for the PS2.

The other disc swap methods involve ejecting the disk tray without pressing the eject button. Usually done by taking a small thin piece of plastic, and shoving it into the front of the PS2 in order to slide the white plastic eject-handle-thingy(I've been on the phones here all day) to eject the disc tray, then doing it in reverse to retract the tray.

I'm unsure if the DMS4 EZI works on v5's, but it's not too hard to install, doesn't need soldering, and I've been using on for the last 8 months without any problems. Of course it is about 10-40CAD more expensive than solder modchips.
And IIRC, the v5's are a bit nicer to mod because of the bottom casing layout, needing only 6 screws to be removed to get at the mainboard, as opposed to the 10 minute flip-flop process to take the higher v's apart.
Also, I'm not sure if the v5's need a Romeo mod, so google around and check. If you don't know, the romeo mod is a quick solder to keep the PS2 laser from burning out when reading backups. My v7 didn't need one...and I think only the v9-v11's do, but I could be wrong.
