PS2 Keyboard On AT Port

I'm helping someone who bought a new keyboard with a PS2 port for their computer that has an old AT(5-pin DIN) keyboard port. The guy at Staples told his wife that those 6-pin mini-DIN to 5-pin DIN keyboard converters don't work. He said something about some of the functionality of PS2 keyboards won't work if you use one of those converters to plug the PS2 keyboard into an AT-style keyboard port. I've never heard of this. Could anybody with experience plugging a PS2 keyboard into an AT port tell me for sure? Thanks.

ALl functions will work fine. It depends though on wether or not the keyboard has special keys that are built in other than the standard 104 keys. If so, then perhaps it might not, but if it is standard 104 then it will.

There is absolutely NO functional difference between those keyboard port versions. It's just a mechanically smaller plug, that's all.

The Staples guy has no clue. There is no difference in functionality.

<-- has used one of these adapters himself and his PS/2 keyboard that was connected with a PS/2-to-AT adapter worked perfectly.

I've never had a problem with them, even with special keys. I think he's either mistaken or he had some weird problem that's unlikely to repeat.

I've used them with no problem also...maybe he wants to sell him a new 'puter.
