Howdy all,

Chaintech vnf3-250
win xp xpro
512mb ram
sempron 3100 oced from 1800 to @2385 stable with cpu burn and memtest 86
All was fine until I hooked the pc up to a kvm switch with another pc which was not booting that I wanted to work on.

After I unhooked the kvm the new pc would boot to the desk top but the mouse pointer could not be moved.

I have tried several mice - no luck.

I plugged in a usb one to type this.

In hardware under human interface devices I am showing 2 each HID compliant consumer device and 1 USB human interface device.

Under mice and other pointing devices I am showing HID compliant mouse.

What can I do to regain the ps2 mouse port?

The motherboard does not report a missing mouse when a ps2 style one is plugged up at bootup.

Any help appreciated

Have you tried removing the installed mice from the device manager and letting XP redetect the hardware?

Had a similar problem with my computer running XP pro when it lost the ps2 mouse driver.
Using the win xp install disk I just added the mouse driver back in---and problem solved.

Until I figured it out, I just put my mouse on a usb port.

It is also possible for a mouse to just crap out. I have a couple of them hanging in the closet - they were PS/2 guys, and they can't be hot-plugged. Try a USB/PS2 adapter and see if it runs that way. It can then be hot plugged into the USB port. Mice are generally too cheap to mess with. Bypass and haul ass.

The vast majority of BIOSes disable the mouse port when none is found during POST. Some BIOSes have a control item "PS/2 Mouse Support" which you can change from Auto to Enabled. That'll make it keep the mouse port enabled even when no mouse is found at boot.

Still, an intelligent KVM would always pretend mouse presence toward all attached machines, only the motion data would forward to the currently selected machine.
