ps2 on computer monitor

yeah, I know this question comes up occasionally and there are other threads, but I'm only starting a new one because there might be a new converter box that someone knows about.

I want to hook up my ps2 to my computer monitor. The monitor is an older 1280 x 1024 monitor with 2 dvi and 1 vga.

it would be nice if the box can upconvert too. I saw one a year ago, I think it was from Mega Cool, but after shipping, I think it came out to $120 or something, so I passed.

I don't want to run it through a PC graphics card because I don't want to have to turn on the PC every time and most people say there is unacceptable lag.

so anyone have a set up they can recommend and their experience with it? I'd like to keep it under $100.

I've never thought about it so there might be a very obvious reason I'm wrong but if you got the PS2 component cables wouldn't this work?

Then you can get an HDMI to DVI adapter from monoprice for like $5.

Get a component to vga cable.

It worked back in the day when I used to want hook my PS2 to a computer monitor. Although it doesn't upscale or anything fancy, but it will do what you want it to do. Or just buy an older PS3.

You could do it with a TV card, but I'm not sure of any that have component inputs, and you'd need to have your computer on while playing the PS2. My monitor has component inputs, so that's how I connect my PS2 to it.

hmm...that box from buy.com seems pretty good. doesn't seem to upscale though. playing the ps2 on a higher-res monitor instead of a regular SD tv makes the graphics look even worse right?

Try a PC game at 640x480 (or less for PS2?) and you will get the idea.

the jaggies are more pronounced if I remember correctly if it's on a higher res monitor without upscaling, since the PS2 was meant for SD TVs in mind, with the color bleed and so forth to make a smoother looking picture.
