I think the hardware is only half of the issue. The other is the software. Superior hardware (even that is arguable) means nothing if there's few software that you want to run on it.

Because of this, my vote is for PS2. There's just better, more entertaining games available for it than for the XBox.

Xbox. Halo is the greatest game ever made! Also, did you guys see all those awesome games coming this year for Xbox? Splinter Cell, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Project Ego, Crimson Skies, Mech Assault and literally 100's of other killer looking games.

There are more than enough killer games on Xbox right now, and the future is MUCH brighter than the PS2's. What a pathetic E3 showing for PS2, GameCube and Xbox both wiped the floor with them.

Another vote for Xbox... PS2 is kinda getting outdated and they already announced PS3 in couple years.

Get the PS2. More games = Better chance of finding something you like to play. Plus the fact that you can find more games used (like at Babbages or EB) for PS2 makes it even better. All this talk about hardware being outdated is irrelevant!

Or you could just get the Xbox now and any of these killer titles to hold you over...

Halo
Rallisport Challenge
Hunter: The Reckoning
Dead or Alive 3
Project Gotham Racing
Madden2002 / NFL 2k2 / Fever 2002
Inside Drive 2002 / NBA 2k2
Spider-Man: The Movie

heck... just go to EBWorld.com and look for yourself, there are HUNDREDS of good Xbox titles. Also, please note, every PS2 game that is also on Xbox (most) is BETTER on Xbox... it's a no-brainer. Xbox.

Unless there is one magical PS2 title you *MUST* have. If so, get a PS2. But I guess if that was the case you wouldn't have asked this question.

Most definately Xbox, the game selection is excellent, especially for a young console, and the gameplay is astounding. Plus the announced online plain presented by Microsoft should make the Xbox the dominant console over the next couple of months. I believe with games like Halo, MotoGP, Ralisport Challenge, Project Gotham Racing, and World Series Baseball...where can you go wrong!

Definitely the X-Box. I owned a PS2 until I bought the X-Box... no more... I auctioned it off as soon as I saw the much-improved picture on my HDTV and heard the much-improved Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.

Neither... go for the GameCube. They have a great selection of games, many of which are proprietary.

What's the name of the Star Wars RPG? Knights of the Old Republic? Xbox exclusive I believe. It's true though that hardware doesn't matter, figure out what games you want and go from there.

no no, knights isn't a xbox exclusive. it's also coming out for the PC. but i'd get the xbox. in fact, i'm planning on getting one early next year maybe. i also have the gamecube and it is also nice. i've decided to steer away from the tempting, but weak PS2...and to think that square has finally decided to partner up with nintendo again. it also gets kinda stupid when the main man of the PSX project said that the old 3DO will beat the XBOX simply because of the game library. that's stupid.

Sigh. Just look at what kinds of games are available for each system, and try to find the ones that suit you best. I've already got a ps2, and I've been somewhat tempted to get an xbox (only for the sega games, dreamcast should never had died), but the europeans and asians have turned their nose upto the xbox, and I can't blame them. If it does not start selling better in foreign markets, especially the japanese market, there may be a bumpy future for the xbox.

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents...

My favorite feature of the xbox is the dolby digital. If you've got a home theatre system, there are many games with dolby support, and since xbox offers on the fly encoding, the games end up sounding very nice indeed.

I was confronted with this problem back in Feb. when I bought my xbox. I'd been waiting for the xbox since Early 2001, so I eventually ended up going with it. Not having to buy memory cards is very nice, and I dunno why, but the xbox just appeals to me more (biased opinion cause I don't have a ps2? ). The only way to decide which one to buy, really, is to carefully look at what each has to offer, hardware and software. Look at the games out now, and the games coming out, and see what you'd be interested in. Take a look at the possibility of their online gaming network, that might be of interest as well. How much is the broadband adapter for the ps2 anyways?

Most of that applies to gamecube as well, which I've been more interested in as of late...

Well, ps2 also has optical digital sound output for dolby digital 5.1 and dts surround formats. The next dvd drive update is supposed to include progressive scan output. I think the xbox has progressive scan too. Anyway, as far as the hard drive goes, ps2 will be getting an add on down the road. I am not trying to push ps2, as i am interested in an xbox too, but just trying to let people which features are included on the ps2.
