Ummm, yea....

To bad the Japanese dictate how well a console will do. And the Xbox.... Ummm..... Hate to break it to you band wagoners but the Japanese HATE the Xbox. They HATE Microsoft and you know what that means? No support!!! That's riiiiight! We'll unless you consider s*itty PC developers as good support?

Muwahaahahahahahahahaahaahahahahah

If you have a PC well set up for gaming, I'd go PS2 or GameCube, since the XBox is basically a PC.

What that means is that most, if not all, the games you see on XBox will be available in one form or another on the PC (Halo was originally developed for PC and Mac, for example...Microsoft bought Bungie and forced them to create an XBox version, which is a relatively easy task given that it's a PC, and then delay the release of the PC/Mac version to maximize the hype around the XBox).

Most game companies, like Electronic Arts for example, will port their popular PC games (like Madden football) to the XBox, but will probably release them at about the same time (since the port doesn't take much work).

In the long run you'll be able to upgrade your PC to run the games in higher resolution or at higher framerates...not so with the XBox.

Meanwhile there will continue to be a long list of games which run only on PS2 or GameCube because porting to or from those platforms is much more difficult.

<<You will never have to use Microsoft's Zone to play XBox games online. Any XBox game that supports System Link will work with the GameSpy Tunnel and the XBox Gateway. >>

tecumseh, I think you should quit while you're at it. You're running out of arguements.

I think you should quit while you only look like an idiot. I stated a fact and you couldn't counter it. Are you going to cry now? Moron.

BACK TO THE TOPIC *ahem*

Anyways, if you want a console as a long term investment (Meaning you don't plan to buy another console for 4 years or something), then I'd say go for the X-Box. X-Box seems to have the most future potential considering it's solid hardware and solid future library of games.

However, if you have money and are willing to buy "the next hottest console" in a few years, then go for the PS2. PS2 right now has the best games out of any newly released consoles. PS2 also has a great number of franchise games on its system such as Final Fantasy.

Ps2 hardware is solid, personally i think the gfx are excellent*shrug*,as far as future titles are concerned the Ps2 has more than enough to compete with Xbox, easily.
Im curious to see what the state of the xbox is a year from now,but for ill stick with ps2.

Heh, I just realised tecumseh is what they call them there Sony "fanboys".

::LAUGHS::

Funny how close to heart some kids take this stuff.

Anyways, like I said, I chose Xbox and I know I made the right decision, why? Well basically because since it came out, I just can't stop playing games on it, why? Well because they are fun. Halo, Amped, PGR and DOA3 are just incredible and my friends and I have a blast hooking up on the weekends after a long week of work and just relax, talk some smack and get our groove on, and it's fun as hell.

Looking forward, I see the official online network, a ton of killer looking titles (and if this bothers you, the Japanese controller is going to be officially released here in February... I should say, I love the Xbox controller but this is a beef with some -smaller handed- peoples).

Games like Morrowmind, Enclave, Wreckless, WWF Raw, Brute Force, a ton of SEGA games and literally more games than I could ever think of playing will most definately satisfy my gaming needs.

Basically Xbox has every base covered for me. So take any "fanboy" nonsense talk from some of the others here with a dumptruck of salt. You can't go wrong with either system, but for me, the Xbox trumps the PS2 in every single regard that I looked at, and that's why I chose it. It's the better system period.

<< PS2 and gamecube don't have ethernet support out of the box. Stupid fanboy. >>

hey idiot read the sentence again or ask an adult to read it to you:

"hey does xbox support wireless Ethernet out of the box? Thanks!"

notice the words XBOX and WIRELESS. wow you're so incredibly stupid it's amazing. what does my sentence have to do with PS2 or Gamecube? You must require the shoes that have velcro straps since there is no way with those skills you could manage the normal kind.

<< It's the better system period >>

no one doubts its mostly better hardware than PS2. still though it's really about the games, not the hardware, and the amount of development xbox has is nothing compared ps2. both ea and sega said they have more in development for ps2 than any other system . most of the titles xbox has right now that were exclusives were given in exchange for sweet royalty deals. the 3rd party exclusives will dry up on xbox now that the locked in the deals unless xbox suddenly outpaces the growth of ps2 and gamecube (and more ps2s were sold during the xmas season than any either gamecube or xbox).

Really though 300 bucks is such a tiny amount of money for most people, i say buy them all.

is anyone forgetting that the X-box and PS2 are both MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE GAMECUBE. The Xbox is freakin $100 more expensive. And my point is that the Gamecube still puts up graphics that are equal to the Xbox and better than the PS2. I think it might be a little too early to be judging systems now, the best games have yet to be released (with the exception of HALO that game ROCKS).

Umm anyone would have interpreted that as you being sarcastic and dissing the XBox for it's lack of wireless ethernet. Maybe you need to go back to English 101, if you can't even express what you mean.

That's strange. I was an English major in college, and I thought he was simply asking a question. I guess I need to go back and brush up on my language skills.

As to the question at hand, I currently own a PS2 and GameCube. PS2 definitely has the best library right now, but Monkey Ball and Rogue Leader are great games. I think the Cube will turn out to be a great gaming system as well.

As for the XBox, I'll probably pick one up eventually also, but I don't really see the point right now. Halo may be the best FPS ever, but I couldn't care less. I prefer original efforts like GTA3 and Monkey Ball. If I decide to get Halo, it'll be for my PC. It'll certainly outperform the XBox.

you know what, Xbox has an uphill battle. Sony is and has been a big worldwide player. Microsoft has a bad reputation here and arround the world. Put those together, and you'll notice that the PS2 is still *currently* outselling the xbox and gc. worldwide the ps2 will outsell both the xbox and gc *combined*. keeping this in mind, developers want to go for the largest possible audience, and that right now is the ps2, and i am sure it will continue to be for a long time. so developers will want to create games for the ps2, and that means better selection and better games for the ps2, which in the end is all that matters in consoles. just look at the top selling games, half of the top ten are ps2 games, and that includes all consoles, pcs and handhelds. the xbox may look nicer, but get a screaming top of the line pc if you want awesome graphics, otherwise, go with a ps2.

"Looking forward, I see the official online network."

Ok, I guess you haven't looked at the study that showed that playing on-line with today's consoles is going to be painfully slow. The main reason is the lack of penetration of high speed access across the United States! Everyone was saying "high speed access is going to be in everyone's house by 2002." We'll it hasn't happened, and will not happen for a while yet. There are only about 10-15% of homes today equipped with high speed access. That sucks. Yea, I know about the modem attachment for people who lack broadband, but will this take off? I doubt it.

Also, I saw the survey they did and they asked console players whether or not they wanted on-line play. Guess what? Most couldn't care about on-line play. Maybe Nintendo knew that on-line play really isn't there yet, so they ommited any plans for an on-line network. At least for now.

"just look at the top selling games, half of the top ten are ps2 games."

So true. I bet Microsoft must be kinda dissapointed that the PS2 was the leading console for the holiday season, even though the GC and the Xbox are brand new systems. When we talk about games, what is good besides Halo? Not much, as any PS2 game would cripple the Xbox.

Microsoft knew that they were going to sell over a million Xbox's! But what the hell is a million, when were talking about consoles? Not much.. The big test will be in 3-5 years. Can Microsoft penetrate the home market deep enough and sell roughly 30-45 million Xbox's? That's were the jackpot is!! Just ask Sony. Anyway, I don't think they can do it.

I hate to break it to you gentlemen but the Crapbox doesn't stand a chance. The only chance the Xbox might have is the fact that Bill Gates has a ton of money to throw on this wasteful project. We'll, once the well starts to dry up, you will see Microsoft ditch the Crapbox and try to recover there loses.

Damn, I hate when I prove people wrong...
And I'm good lookin too. Yea, good looks and very smart. What else could I ask for?

Wow, I pretty much ignored tecumseh's babble....

Pesonally if the only game out for the xbox was Project Gotham....I would still buy the Xbox, that is simply one of the best games I have ever played and I am admittedly addicted.

Nothing beates Project Gotham IMHO

And online play with Halo is cool.

The good thing about online play with consoles is that it evens the field as everyone has the same hardware....no more getting smoked by the person with the better machine.

Admittidly surveys or not, one of the main reasons for my buying the Xbox was the built in network adaptor, and I am happily surprised that I can use it before MS official support.

And in regards to the monthly fee, I really have no problem paying an extra $20 a month as I make enough to afford something as small as that

Go Xbox!!!

<< Sorry dude i DO KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!! Sorry to break it to ya, but if you want to play on-line against people from around the world than your going to have to pay 10-20 dollars a month trough Microsoft's Zone!!

I read all about it, so there!!! Educate yourself, please!!

>>

Oh you read all about it huh? Well while you were reading I was online playing Halo for FREE! And ya, these were people from around the world. Just because MS is offering an online service for $10-$20 doesn't mean someone else can't offer a similar service. Hey, I guess if you are running a form of Windows, I guess the ONLY choice you have for an ISP is MSN, right? <rolleyes> Now I suggest you take your own advise and "educate yourself, please!!" Now take your "I think I'm cool because I jumped on the MS bashing bandwagon" arse out of this thread!

I suggest you do a little less reading and a little more thinking! If you have a PC or console you better have broadband to play online games! A 56K modem sucks MAJOR ass for playing over the net no matter what platform you are using! This isn't a console issue!!

<< Also, I saw the survey they did and they asked console players whether or not they wanted on-line play. Guess what? Most couldn't care about on-line play. >>

Maybe the question should have been, "would you want the capability to go online with your console at no extra charge?" Because that is EXACTLY what the XBox is giving you! I think you'd be retarded to turn that down, but given the arguements you've posted on this thread I wouldn't put it past you.

<< Maybe Nintendo knew that on-line play really isn't there yet, so they ommited any plans for an on-line network. At least for now. >>

Well that was a Nintendo error not MS.

Just picked up a PS2 for the kids, great console to replace the PS1 we've been kicking around for the last few years.

Coulda went gamecube...nobody to trade games with.
Coulda went X-box..........same..nice features though!

Probably would have been happy with any of them, went with the PS2 and don't regret it at all.
