PS2/USB Mouse on serial port?

I gave my dad a Logitech Mouseman Optical and it didn't work - turns out his (older) computer doesn't have a PS/2 port, and he had tried to plug it in to the PS/2-to-Serial adapter from his previous mouse. I assume the mouse just doesn't support serial, so it's impossible for him to use this mouse on his computer unless he gets a USB card. Am I right?

What OS is he running on a computer that old? It might not even support USB.

Win98. It's a pentium 100, so I was a bit surprised the mb didn't have a ps/2 port, but it doesn't.

Yeah, you're probably best off getting a USB card..they shouldn't be too much at all.

A lot of the socket 7 boards had the pins setup for a ps-2, but they needed a riser card to make it available on the back. The riser cards are getting to be more and more difficult to locate, but if you can find one, it should be pretty cheap.

Yep, I have that problem with my P166MMX. I have the PS/2 pins, but I can't find a riser card. So I have to use an AT keyboard and serial mouse.
