I hate companies that are trying to milk the shortage for as much as they can. They refuse to sell a PS2 for the $299 base price. They jack the price up and sell them with extras. :|

There is a advantage for buying the bundle at walmaxt because you can go there and exchange your games if you dont open them. I just want to say that.

Actually, it isn't Amazon that's doing this. Sony is taking advantage of the shortage to force companies to buy those crappy bundles instead of just base units. (They didn't like the fact that most people are just buying them for cheap DVD and skipping out on all the peripherals and games that actually make money). Amazon et al. are just passing the "savings" on to you.

Still too expensive for what they offer. The games now do not justify the price of the system. I will wait till better games are published. Dvd feature is nice, but I already own a sony dvd player.

Do you guys realize that this is just one of Sony's marketing strategy.
They "claimed" that they will only ship a limited amount during the shipping days.
However, they slowly ship more and more units.
Isn't it weird that more and more PS2 units keep appearing in your nearby Target ?
I myself saw 10 units !!!! of PS 2 in my Irvine Target. They are selling it for 299.
Even though I have a PS2, I think the whole ordeal on PS2, "stock" or "not in stock" is just ridiculous.
Also, my Irvine Target is not the only one that the apperance of mysterious PS2 have occured.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents

DC rules. And it is only $99 now and is available in plenty of stores. Plus has the best games of any console right now. A good cheap holdover until XBox.

The XBox will probably also be a disappointment. I have both a DC and a PS2, and the DC is definitely the better way to go right now. It's cheap at the $99 closeout price, and many good games can be gotten for discount prices.

Anything so hyped up is rarely going to be what you hoped for. Especially when most of us are used to seeing games on a $2000+ computer system with a high resolution display and a buttload of memory, etc.

I'll probably get an XBox too.. But, what I really want is for the Dreamcast Linux or NetBSD port to mature, so it can be a cool set top box that can mount my Linux file server & play my MP3 library through my stereo system.

Paid retail at my local Toys'R'Us in Yuba City, CA last night. They had about 30 in stock. I really hope the supply hype is dying if they're finally showing up in good supply in cow-towns like mine.
I intentionally held off on buying a DVD player (and original PSX...heh) in anticipation of this. I don't think it's such a bad deal for the functionality it offers.
