I do not know whether or not i should get the 20gb or the 60gb console. I need it to be backwards compatible, and i know that the earlier models of the 20gb have that. I do not want the 40gb or the 80gb.

Please Help me for people who own a PS3!
Which one should i get?

If you don't care about an integrated wi-fi card and memory card slots, save some money and go with the 20GB. This is really an easy question based on what your wants and needs are.

Depends on the price, I assume you're looking to buy a 20 gig used?

What are the prices / bundles?

People here have mentioned getting deals on the last of the new 60GB units, free game, free controller, etc., and having a full year warranty is also worth something.

I think this is the key. Just ignore the storage space. If you don't need Wi-Fi or memory card slots, then get the 20 GB and put the the money saved towards a larger hard drive. You can upgrade it yourself and can find 160 GB laptop hard drives for less than $100.

Where did you get a 60gb for $350?

Also, this is addressing "Davesimmons"
WHere can you get deals for 60gb with free controller/game?
That sounds like a good deal

People have mentioned un-advertised deals at local stores in some recent threads here. I don't know of any national / online deals, you'd just need to check any local stores that still have 60 GBs.

Bestbuy had the deal 2 weeks ago, it's gone now but my local one still has 4-5 60 gigs left

Definitely the 60GB. All the extras you get with the 60GB version are well worth it. Don't cheap out.

Walmart had a deal online for 60GB + free Sony remote + free game (Warhawk with wireless headset was included in options!) but it's out of stock online now. I think this was also an online only deal. It looks like the only possible deals you'll find on 60GBs will be in-store, which may be hard to find now.

If I had to choose between two I'd say go with the 20gb if you can still find it new. Its very very hard to find now. Memory card readers you can get a usb one for a few bucks that reads them all. use money save towards larger hard drive. Only thing you can't do it yourself is wifi.

I personally went with 40gb through sonystyle and credit card off.

I used the 100 bucks off well more like 70 after tax and put it towards a 250gb hard drive(150.xx after tax @ bb) Backwards compatibility was not a factor for me. With only 1 game I want to play on the ps2(fire pro wrestling returns) I wasn't willing to pay extra 100. I'd rather drag my ps2 out.

well, i do thank you all for posting. I probably wont get the 60gb, i dont really need the wifi since i have a 100ft ethernet cable going through my ceiling from my router to my t.v. So, i guess my only option left is the 20gb
Thanks everyone!

If you get the 20GB, don't plan on sticking with that harddrive. It's slower than the other models, so games stored on the harddrive take quite a hit.

Any idea when that 60gb bundle from Walmart will be back in stock? With Warhawk that looks pretty good...

Possibly never, the 60GB ceased production months ago so Walmart would have to gather up stock that was already sent to individual stores. The 40GB and 80GB are the only ones still being made.

The 40 and 80gig versions have lesser backwards compatibility, thats all I know of for sure though.

I recently got an 80gig version myself. I don't play games on it though (so far), it is a blue-ray player only for now.

40 GB = PS1 only, -0- PS2.

80 GB = PS1 & PS2, but only has "GS" chip from PS2 slim (60GB also has "EE" chip)

This database from Sony lists BC. 40GB is the same as 80GB for PS1 games but again plays zero PS2 games.
Sony explains it all

If you can still find the 20 for around 250..if you don't care about the perks of the 60GB...get it. It's an awsome deal...replace the HD yourself for much less...I need to scour craigslist or ebay myself. I like the PS3 but it's not worth even $399 right now.
