These threads keep getting more and more pathetic. Do you honestly believe sony would release a broken console? God, you people are dumb.
a lot of ps1's became defective after awhile.
and my 8086, atari, commodore64, nintendo, supernintendo, sega genesis, and gameboy all work perfectly fine still.

"Unique temperature conditions"? You mean like those found inside of an entertainment cabinet perhaps? What... does Sony expect everyone to mount their PS3s in front of an AC unit?
how about being on all day and having people crowded around all day?
Not to mention that only a HANDFUL of sony batteries actually caught on fire...

Only a handful caught fire? When it comes to things just randomly starting on fire, one is too many.

well a handful of laptop batteries catching on fire should not stop people from buying a playstation 3...if a handful of ps3s caught fire, it wouldn't stop me from buying one. ill take the 1 in a million chance

Now that Intel is no longer the king of overheating products the title goes to sony.
Agreed, Sony is far too huge for any one failed product to kill them.Originally posted by: mugs

I highly doubt that. Sony is a big company, they make a ton of consumer electronics. They distribute movies and music. They publish games. If PS3 is a failure at worst Sony will become another Sega with regard to the video game industry. But I think they'd give it another go - the home entertainment market is worth it to them.
Tom's Hardware did that video. The AMD chip blew up in seconds. The Intel chip fared very well.Originally posted by: mugs

I remember seeing a video a while back where someone ran different processors without a heatsink/fan. Most would run briefly, maybe 15 seconds before the computer froze. But one, I don't remember if it was an AMD or an Intel, caught fire within seconds of turning the power on.

Didn't the 360 have heat issues in the pre-release consoles which were in stores? And weren't some people hanging their 360's power bricks up in the air to avoid overheating? Seems to be a pattern. I think these things (just like the 360) are simply going to be massive heat producers.

That seems reasonable. If I were buying a next-gen console I would get a laptop cooler for it. As it is, my slim ps2 arrives on thursday

Where'd you buy? Did you get a deal? New or used? I want to get a slim PS2, preferably new, but I don't want to pay more than $100 for it. I've seen them on sale at Target that cheap, but not recently.

Ebay for $90. Hopefully it works. I think I'm going to get a small tv instead of a tv box for my monitor, so I wanted to save $.
