Eh, even with the negatives of the 360 compared with the PS3, and even after my second 360 died just two days ago, I'll still take another 360 over the PS3 at this point.
Why is that exactly?
The only thing bad about the PS3 at this point is that it has so few good games.
You just answered your own question. Not to mention the fact that certain games (Madden) are obviously better are on one system relative to the other.

I thought the same thing when I read this. I buy these things to play games on. The other features are just icing on the cake. The 360 has far and away the better line up and this fall is only going to make the gap bigger. I'm sure I'll buy a PS# eventually...but not until they have games to back it up.

The inclusion of Blu-Ray was brilliant IMHO. With the $350 deal that is going on you can't touch the value you get. Blu-Ray + Next Gen gaming? That's a good deal over what the Xbox offers. And it's not like it's a crappy "oh by the way" deals. By most accounts the quality of the playback is excellent.
I've never been one of the "Another nail in the coffin for "XY" format" people...but I really think Blu-Ray has the upper hand. Every PS3 console comes with it, the online rental support, instore support at Blockbuster, ect. If I had to put my paycheck down on which one I felt was going to "win", it pains me to say it...but Sony is probably going to walk away after the dust settles.

Yeah, Sony is definitely making a comeback. And the inclusion of blu-ray would be brilliant, if it actually cost $350 in stores without having to sign up for a credit card to be credited months later.
The decent software is on the way, now its just a price issue for me really.

While I agree with your sentiments concerning MS and its proprietary stuff, some of what is quoted above I don't agree with. While you can pay $50 for 12 months of XBL gold, many of us get it for less, and would argue that it is well worth it too. If Sony charged for their online service right now, I don't believe most of us would pony up for it, I certainly wouldn't. So for now at least, you get what you pay for You don't have to use the MS headset or wifi either. The HDD situation definitely deserves the ranting/raving about it though.Originally posted by: akubi
the 360 on the otherhand, is a shining beacon of a closed black box platform. peter moore used to like babbling about how the 360 is all about "choice". yup, you can certainly choose to pay a significant mark up for accessories produced by microsoft. that's your choice! you want multiplayer? you have the choice to pay microsoft 50 bucks a year to do that. you want a bigger hard drive? yeah you got the choice to fork over $179 for a 120GB harddrive inside a slightly altered plastic enclosure! you want wi-fi? sure, you got the choice to pay for a microsoft wi-fi add on! you want a head set? you gotta have the microsoft headset!

"proprietary" huh? that's a big word there, kiddo. perhaps you should consult a dictionary?
ps3 is anything but proprietary. standard SATA hard drive that you can upgrade/swap out at will. standard usb & bluetooth mouse/keyboard/HID/headset (ut3 for ps3 will have the option to use keyboard and mouse; and also the wireless guitar hero made possible through open specs). the network is an open platform where the developers are free to implement their own online deployment strategies (i.e. open downloadable content: user made mods. again, shown possible by ut3). you can also run linux on it.

guess why the new xbox360 guitar hero has difficulty going with a wireless guitar! guess why epic had to delay 360 ut3 to iron out user mods/maps! bureacratic red tape and intellectual property bullshit that microsoft loves so much.
lmao!
now if you are referring to sony's music business practices, you may have a point. but sony is a large conglomerate and the way it works in japan, you can have one brand which consists of a large number of inherently independent subgroups. sony console business has nothing to do with making and producing cds.

The universal HD is a nice touch, but the blu-ray drive and memory stick are as proprietary as it gets.

Wouldn't it be increasing as they continue to add features?
They left a lot of slack for future-proofing. Plus a lot of the code (like friends list) is not optimized in its current state. There was a rumor that firmware 2.0 will only take 32M of system RAM, 0M of video RAM but take that with a grain of salt. It's down to about 80M total and a lot of features are being optimized each release.

This post just popped up regarding RAM usage with the 1.8 SDK. Note that it's not the most current SDK.

Sony is not the only company who developed BD, and the MS format is just one of the kinds of cards you can use.
