PS3 Netflix audio sync

Hi all,

Trying to get my PS3 to behave: I'm watching various netflix titles and sometimes I have audio sync issues. The audio runs BEFORE the video. Now, it looks fine when running BluRays and DVDs, but Netflix generally looks wrong. Watching on my iPad or XBox however seems fine.

What might be wrong here? I did a factory reset and the issue persists. Some titles misbehave across ALL devices: Andromeda strain has major lag issues on all devices. The current movie is Ronin.

I have eliminated my receiver, since the xbox also goes through it and suffers no issues. I swapped HDMI inputs with the XBox so that the PS3 was using the same settings that worked for the XBox, and the issue persisted.

Thanks!

I've had this problem now and then also but I've found that it is usually due to bad encodes on their side. Do you find that it is a random problem or with specific videos?

I haven't experienced any sync issues on my PS3 with Netflix. I do have it sometimes on my Samsung Bluray player that has "Samsung Apps", one of which is Netflix.

I saw some suggestion however to remove the Netflix app from your PS3 and then reinstall it. Some claim that has helped them with this same issue.

Worth a shot if you haven't done so already.

Watching scrubs on my PS3 right now and having no problems, not sure what the issue might be.

I've always assumed it was a Netflix problem. They have ridiculous encodes sometimes--subtitles well out of frame, video will skip and freeze, then screws up the audio sync.

I imagine that if it were a PS3 problem, it would effect all of the Netflix content, no?

Yeah, I think this is a Netflix issue.

I've already done that on the PS3, when I formatted the device. No luck.

What I don't get is: Why is the Xbox version better? It seems more in sync, and I switched back and forth a few times.

With regards to the movies that are bad on all devices, I honestly don't see any reason to keep Netflix streaming anymore...the service is just so bad, added to the quality being poor.

This is a Netflix issue.

I have ran into several problems with the audio on Netflix from: French audio for Stargate and out of sync for Highlander Season 5. It did not matter if I used my PC or PS3.

Stargate was fixed with in a week.

Still waiting for Highlander 2 months later.

But see....my problem is that it looks FINE on my XBox and bad on my PS3...

Yeah, I ran into this with a couple episodes of Law & Order:Criminal intent, the latest one I remember was S5:E9 - Scared Crazy. The PS3 sync was all over the place, the Xbox sync was dead perfect. Maybe they're using different encodes for each console? Doesn't make sense, but seems the only explanation.

Alrighty, at least it isn't just me going insane. Have you tried changing audio to linear PCM from bitstream?

Could it be that the PS3s WIFI just sucks? I run netflix on my PS3 and 360 and prefer the 360. I get some synch issue on the PS3 and never on the 360. The PS3 is wifi and the 360 is wired. I wonder if that may make some difference.

Both my PS3 and X360 are on a wired network and connected thru HDMI. Even when I listen thru my headset via the optical out, the PS3 is out of sync on the above-mentioned episode. Really weird. The only thing I can think of is either a console-specific encode or the PS3 is doing some weird mumbo-jumbo behind the scenes on specific videos.

Sync issues are entirely a netflix issue. I've had it before as well with certain tv shows, or just certain seasons. For a while a season of Eureka was only missing certain sound tracks. Ambient noise was still playing, but no voices. It was the oddest thing and I don't even know how Netflix could have broken that.

They run off 2 different servers. Netflix runs a separate server for PC, 360, and PS3.

Oh. This probably is the problem then. Netflix is made of so much win...

I thought this could be the issue, so I ran a cat5 cable across my apartment...no difference.

Did you disable the wifi on the ps3 when you connected the cat5? I dont know if wifi would be the default or not if both are enabled.

No, but I verified in settings that it listed a wired connection, not wireless. Is that not enough?

I am having this same issue as well. Watching Mad Men and the audio is playing before the video. I have the HDMI going directly to the TV and the TOSLINK cable going to my receiver (it doesn't have HDMI).

I can watch Mad Men without issue on my blu-ray player in the bedroom, but that could be because it's hooked directly to the TV. I dunno.

No solutions?

Stop/restart it. Netflix on the PS3 is just absolute crap. Not that the XBox is much better...
