I got me a Mitsubishi Diamondtron Pro 2070 Super bright 22" crt computer monitor in mint conditions. I also have a Onkyo Sr506 receiver with a pair of Behringer B2030P speakers and a dayton 12" subwoofer. What i wanna know is what would i need to connect the crt to the ps3. I already got the ps3 connected to the receiver for sound with an optical connection and the speakers and sub connected to the receiver. So all im missing is a connection to the crt to ps3. What are my options?

The most simplified way I can think of, and probably the most cost effective way is get a HDMI-DVI cable and then use a DVI-VGA(female to female) connector. Only problem I can think of is HDCP thing.

I don't think you'd be able to do that because of HDCP. I know there are special DVI>VGA converters for sale that remove HDCP...or you could get something like the HD Box pro...converts component to VGA for your monitor. That's the cheapest option...probably your best one, too.

Unless your CRT monitor has DVI/HDCP?

That won't work even disregarding HDCP. HDMI doesn't send analog signals out the way that DVI-I does.

Well i was recommended this one http://www.hdfury.com/ its around $50 on monoprice and ebay. Apparently it can make my crt run fine on 1080P. What do you guys think?

IS the HD BOX similar? i think the hdfury only works for applications that are hdmi only like the new consoles and not old ones.

HDFury works fine, to HDCP signals to CRT. Just use optical out to pass along the audio.

Thats correct, games won't be affected, but blu-ray movies will. (PS3 plays games in 720p mode most of the time.)

I was told that the problem with hdfury is that it doesn't include gamma correction, so either you play it dark with loss of details, or really bright and washed out. So i might just go the component to vga way with the http://www.hdboxpro.com/eng/shop.htm. It does the same thing HDfury does so i'd rather spent money on that one not sure if theres any drawback (being component?). I was also offered a used http://www.x2vga.com/ which is like HDBOX without gamma correction.

Problem with HDBox Pro is that you can only buy it from that website and it only accepts paypal and ships from china(so thats like $15 and 3 weeks shipping)

This is a tough decision... i wish they were all cheaper and accesible i would buy them all .

That's absolutely incorrect. If you're using the PS3's HDMI output, even converted to DVI and playing nothing but the dashboard at 480i, you'll need HDCP support in your TV (and if you've got one, receiver). This might not make sense "logically", but it's how the PS3 works.

Well... my uncle bough it around 2003-2004 (not sure i know it cost him more than 1k). Well after he used it for about a year he passed away so it has been collecting dust in a closet ever since that happened. So i asked my cousin if i could have it and he sold it to me for $50.

I connected to my monitor (LCD) through component, I was able to play all games at 720p with no problems. And I did check the resolution while in game. So it might be the HDMI limitation then.

What's your point? I said HDMI, you said component. There's no HDCP over component. BR-Ds are limited to 720p/1080i over component, DVDs are limited to 480p, no limitations for games. (Yes, you read that correctly.)
