I have owned both. Sold the 360 to get a PS3 last fall.

Comes down to blu ray, games, and free online.

I honestly don't get the big deal with XBOX Live. used it, not worth $50 a year though.

Plus I may go a month without every playing online and don't want to pay for something I'm just not using.

Games, I lean towards PS3, though the big games seem to be going both platforms now. Final Fantasy was a big reason I went PS3 over XBOX and now it will be on both systems.

I still like some other games, like little big planet, MGS4...

I'm not a Halo fan(or FPS on console fan) so that is not a big deal. They are just so similar it almost just doesn't matter. Price makes the 360 very attractive, it just depends on personal preference.

But it all depends on how you use this or that and whether you like this one or that one. And that's all I've got to say about that.

Are you talking about consoles or women?

Back on topic:

Disclaimer: I have a PS3, but not a 360, so yeah, I'm biased. I'd like to get a 360 eventually, but I still don't think the 360's have proven reliability yet. Hopefully, they're much more reliable now, but only time will tell.

You can get PlayOn to stream Netflix/YouTube/Hulu to your PS3 from your PC. Not quite as elegant as the 360's Netflix streaming from what I understand, but still a possibility.

360 has more games. If you count backwards compatibility, the BC PS3 has a lot more games. But what matters is what games you actually want to play.

A lot of developers jumped over to 360 after the initial abysmal sales of PS3, which means that a lot of games coming out now for the PS3 are just ports of 360 games, and therefore less polished. My friend says Force Unleashed for PS3 is buggy as heck.

As the PS3 sales catch up with the 360, more developers are going to code for the PS3, and then port over to the 360. I'm guessing/hoping that eventually it'll be 50/50 which console a game is native to.

Upscaled DVD's are good, but Blu-Ray is GREAT! If you have a 1080p TV, you must experience Blu-Ray!

I don't think I've ever heard anyone claim that PSN is better than Xbox Live, except for being free.

360's cheaper. But if they ever add a Blu-Ray drive, that'll drive the price up.

It's easy to add any laptop hard drive to the PS3. Microsoft charges an outrageous amount for its 360 hard drive upgrades. Both companies are pushing movie/game downloads, which will make hard drive size more important.

I've owned the XBOX for about a month, and the PS3 a little less than a week.

I like the PS3 a tad bit more than the 360 so far. I like the feel of the controller (just a familiar feel from years of PS1/2 gaming) and it just has more games that appeal to me right now.

Only one of them plays HD movies now. so....winner winner, chicken dinner.

(to be fair, that's 90% of the reason I bought the PS3, back when HD DVD was still competing heavily)

I don't know why but the 360 games just seem more refined and etc. My PS3 has been collecting a lot of dust... What I need now is a HDTV and I think then I'll start messing with my PS3 more.

I don't understand the utility of either system without an HDTV. a lot of the games are designed for HD playback, so it seems like a waste of money.

I still maintain that, due to hardware issues, both suck so it doesn't matter which one. However, the 360 does have XBOX Live and the PS3 has Blu-ray.

PSN is free and works well enough. Voice chat works well enough in games, aside from people who use the Eye Toy as a mic. I dont see how paying $40 for Live is worth it. In Burnout, GTA4, COD4, etc, voice chat works fine. I had a 360 but never paid for Live, so in that sense, PSN was better to me cause I could play online. But there were some games on 360 that I loved that haven't made their way to PS3, like Dead Rising and Crackdown. I originally bought my PS3 for Blu ray but once I played Burnout online it took over as my main console. 360 was also too loud, and the fear of RROD kept be from using it that much and I eventually just sold it. Most of the advantages the 360 had at launch have been added via firmware updates. 360 also seems to nickel and dime you to death: live, wireless, bigger hard drives, etc.

But, the price of the 360 is so cheap now it would be a good buy considering any shortcomings. 360 games tend to be cheaper, and at $40 a year for live at $200 for the console seems reasonable (not for me, pc gamer in me cant do it). If you pay for netflix then the streaming stuff is a nice bonus.

If you have a decent TV I would think the PS3 would have better value over the long haul, but there is nothing wrong with the 360 at its current price. To put it in Star Wars terms, its like a blaster (360) versus a light saber (PS3) in my opinion. I just prefer the elegance of the PS3. But if I didnt have a console and was looking for one, and didnt care about blu ray, I'd probably get a 360 60GB from Dell for like $250 when they have those coupons. Thats a great deal. When its all said and done they'll probably end up costing you the same with live year after year, maybe wireless adapter or bigger hard drive, etc, and the higher initial price of the PS3, so I dont think you'll go wrong with either. Just look at the 1st party exclusives...which system has the games you want to play?

I waited a long time to buy the 360 because of the RRoD, and I regretted it. I missed out on a lot of potential playing time. With the 3 year warranty, there's really nothing to worry about now. We'll be into the next generation in 3 years. The newer ones are supposed to be pretty reliable anyway, and if you're still worried you can buy it at Costco and let them deal with sending it back to Microsoft when it breaks - you just swap it for a new one.

Great idea, but no Costco near me.

I refuse to buy an expensive toy that has a good chance of breaking. Even with the warranty, I could be without a 360 for 3 weeks waiting for the exchange. For me, that is unacceptable. If you're willing to take that risk, that's fine. It's just not for me.

MS has lost whatever trust I might have had in them. Someone posted an article awhile back in which a MS executive basically said that they deliberately ignored the engineering problems with the 360 and rushed it out the door, knowing that the consoles would fail. He also said that he didn't think it was a mistake. He'd do it again to gain market position. There's no way I'm going to support a mentality of screw-the-customer-for-a-buck.

I'll wait until the latest generation of 360's are proven reliable. In the meantime, I've got a PC, Wii, and PS3 to keep me busy. And I sure won't be first in line to buy the Xbox 720.

I personally like the PS controller. It's lighter and feels better to me but I like the triggers and sticks on the Tree-siddy better. MSG4 and GT5 are what made me buy the system.

* Load times are way better than PS3

What games? I have both, and the PS3 without exception has been hands down faster loading every single game, that single factor has made me end up going with the PS3 port for all cross platform titles.

If you have a gaming PC, I think the PS3 pimp slaps the 360. Nigh no exclusives, poor loading times, obnoxiously noisy, pay to play online(if you are big into playing online and stick to popular games the 360 is more robust then PSN atm, but if you just want to check games out or play paying for Live! is a waste) and much weaker in utility. Even at $200 it seems to me the Wii or PS3 are still much better values. The Wii is almost entirely exclusive content for the type of games it has(which are clearly unique) and the PS3 does what the 360 does at least as well(possible exception being Live depending on how much you use it) along with working as a sweet HTPC and a higher end BRD player while being pretty much whisper silent. I really don't see how it's close. Yeah, I have them all- buying the 360 this gen is the only thing my wife has told me was a waste of money.

You got nothing. You like 360 'cause you can yap on Live w/ your homies. There's nothing that makes 360 games different from PS3 games except for the money MS pays companies for timed exclusives and DLC.

Yes, I agree. I also have both, but my PS3 gets more use. My 360 sounds like a jet engine, and I hate using it. My PS3 is dead silent.

Have you ever heard a jet engine?

Yes many times, and trust me, my 360 is damn close.

I find the 360 is pretty quiet when playing games off the hard drive, which will soon be an option for all games - this will also speed up load times apparently. As for 360 vs PS3 I've noticed folks with both consoles seem pretty evenly split on which one they prefer, so down to personal preference.

I have the same version, and when the fan comes on (which isn't all the time), the noise is definitely noticeable, although not loud. I've heard it when playing games and Blu-Rays. I haven't really noticed it when playing DVD's yet.

Actually, I was thinking about starting a thread asking other PS3 owners how loud their consoles get, because I'm wondering if something's wrong with mine.

My PS3 (80 gig BC version) has three noise levels - silent, noticeable, and whirling vortex of doom. Even in my fairly cool basement and unenclosed it usually runs at the "noticeable" level for most games and movie playback. Not an issue at all for games, but you do well..notice it...during quiet scenes in movies. The only time it freaked out went into vortex of doom mode was the first time I fired it up thinking it would like being inside the entertainment center. Not the case.

The Xbox I had prior simply had two modes - whisper and jet turbine wail of the banshee. Movies and Arcade games were in whisper mode. Any game that required use of the DVD drive (so basically every CD based game) was a physical assault on my ears.
