PS3 vs PS4.....What makes more sense?

I used to have a PS3 (1st gen) several years ago, but I sold it when i was in Brazil (i almost sold it the price I bought it, since everything is very expensive in this country)
But I still have all my games, because at this time I thought I will buy a new PS3 once back in the US
Now, with the release of the PS4, does it make sense to buy a PS3?
I've understood that the PS3 games will not work on the PS4, so looks like my only option is to buy another PS3 or sell all my games !!! But i'm not sure I'll get a good price for all the games I have
What do you think?
If I go with the PS3, which one should I try to get?

You should be finding PS3s going on sale for cheap when people try to offload them in preparation for the PS4.

Individual sellers will be getting rid of them. I don't think any one model is better than another. The newer slim models are quieter by a fair bit though.

Meijer is selling the latest PS3 250G with 2 games for $199, and a $20 coupon on top of it.....Looks like a good deal, no?
I've seen a PS3 slim 250Gb with 3 games for $155 on Craigslist

For such a little difference, I would prefer go new at Meijer, thus I will have 1 year warranty

What do you think?

Yeah for $50 I'd go new especially with the $20 coupon. Makes it only $30 difference and like you said, warranty. You never know whether someone took care of their PS3 or if it's on life support heh.

If you found a PS3 for $100 or something though then that would be quite a deal.

On Craigslist, people are selling their PS3 quite high...I doubt I will find anything around $100....
Maybe blackfriday will bring some goo deals in some stores

Yeah if you aren't in a hurry, there are probably going to be many deals on PS3 systems through the holidays. Especially with people trading them in.

Most stores including Target, Meijer, Gamestop will have the same Batman Arkham Origins, The Last of US and 250GB system bundle.

yep even the cheap slims are going for $150 which is nuts imo considering last year on Black Friday $199 bought one with games.
People may get increasingly aggressive selling them soon. 360's can now be had for $90-100 on Craigslist.

Make a list of other PS3 games you might want to play, and look at the prices on them too.

Then look at the $400 price of the PS4 and the $60 per game price.

I'd get a PS3, buy any other games you want to play, then maybe get a PS4 around this time next year.

I'm trying to sell my original 60gb PS3 *wink wink*. Personally think the originals are the ones to get since you get backwards compatibility with PS1 & 2 games.

That said, I'm excited about the PS4. You may want to play with trade in programs like amazon's to see what you can get for your games.

A new one will have a warranty, use a lot less power, and be quieter (the slim anyway, mixed posts here about the top-loading super-slim).

Are you saying I should get the slim and not the latest one?

The slim is the new model. The super slim one. I have the older slim model, been running great for couple years now. Either one should be fine. Mine gets loud now after playing for a while but it still hasn't had any issues. Either way if it breaks I'm getting a ps4 Friday so I'm keeping the ps3 for games I have not finished and streaming service.

The very last one is the ultra slim, right?
I've heard/read people saying it wasn't the best.....?!?!?!
But it is $200 with 2 games, brand new, and a $20 coupon at Meijer
The slim is ~$150 at GameStop, refurbished....

So i will probably go for the ultra slim brand new, or wait BlackFriday to see what price i could get it

Dunno why it would not be good. It should work fine. I would go for the new one with warranty.

I'd wait until December and January.

Many people who have PS3s will probably decide to dump them after they realize that it can be a pain in many situations to try to keep both hooked up (tons of clutter/cables). Many many more still will dump them AFTER getting their PS4s.

I expect sub $100 prices to be common post PS4 launch. I'm already seeing 360s for less than $75 here in DFW, and those are not just the old fatties either. PS3 20, 60, and 80GBs are commonly available for around $100 here, I've flipped a couple BC models on Ebay for twice the price.

Get one of those CL apps that scour posts for keywords, usually the best deals come from ones that are posted in other sections along with other ads. Saw one the other day that was :

42" Vizio LCD $200
Sony Home Theatre BluRay (missing rear speakers) $50
PS3 60GB $75
Or all for $300

I bought the whole thing and gave the TV/Bluray player to my parents.

Best advice. Except depending on the amount of games missed/never played, it can, and probably should be two years.

I never owned a PS3 for more than a month, so now I am getting one for keeps until I play a few games I always wanted to try. Things like Killzone Trilogy, Demons Souls, Infamous, Last of Us, Heavy Rain, and many many more. I should finally be able to get them all for around $10 each. Same goes for the Xbox 360 and it's titles. All that should easily hold me over until the PS4 is about $300. That's when I'm gonna buy it, and that's when it will finally have a good number of games, and when a good number of them will cost what they SHOULD cost, not what "they" want for them.

So you're saying the PS4 can't be used as a streaming device?

The PS4 will be fine for streaming Netflix, Amazon, other services, but Sony has said that at launch it will not support DLNA or USB connected media files. They don't say when or if that will change.

Actually I believe only dlna is not working at launch but it still supports the ability to plug in a usb drive. Weather it will play certain formats I'm not sure. I know mp3 support is not available because they don't have the rights to it.

Probably so you won't be able to update the firmware off your own USB drive (aka custom firmware).

Stick with PS3. It will be a year or two before next gen is really worth it.

PS3 should continue having games for at least two more years. Sony really bends over backwards to keep the older systems running. Just look at PS2.
